Galactic chart

Post by ralph_hh »

Is there an OXP that does it? Otherwise I'd like to suggest the following feature:

The close range chart provides you with some data about the gouvernment and economy by little symbols. I miss such info in the long range galaxy chart. If you look i.e. for the nearest Anarchy planet or in general for an area with a few more of these, you are lost. The long range chart does not offer such information. It would be a bit overloaded, if it showed the symbols, but why could one not cycle through a third chart with the planets given a certain colour depending on their government type- or optionally just trigger this in the gal. map by a certain key. If the galaxy chart is displayed, pressing SHIFT may show you the gov. types with a color code information at the side.

(ALT may show you the economy type, if someone needs this in the early phases of the game, doing milk runs.)

Try cycling through with the '?' on the galactic chart (you need the ANA too, I think).
Hmm... perhaps that is in trunk only, and not in 1.80?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

'?' to cycle is in 1.80, but I think it works better for governments and economies in 1.81 since it explicitly matches the colour of the star to the colour of the zoomed-in icon (which is itself customisable through the new gui-settings.plist) rather than using an arbitrary and different spectrum.

On that subject, cim: any chance the selection preference could persist through quit/reloads?

Wasn't there some discussion of an intermediate zoom between whole galaxy and local area a while ago? Something that would show a larger area but still show the government type etc. and could be scrolled in any desired direction? I thought someone said it was coming in the next release, but maybe I misunderstood.

In trunk, you can use Page Up/Down to zoom in/out to your preferred display, and scroll it too - it works fine (mostly).

You can even use the mouse wheel to zoom in / out.
