tilt sensors active by default?

Post by Rxke »

Yesterday I installed Ubuntu studio (and already I can't wait to uninstall, and go back to Debian, but that's another story :) )

and for fun I checked out the shipped Oolite (1.77)

... And I just... what? huh?

The ole Cobra was tilting and drifting in a most peculiar way...

Then it hit me: I was running it on an old macbook, and it took input from how the laptop was oriented, there seemed to be some tiltsensors active.

Kinda neat, I guess, I could in theory steer by wildly flailing around the laptop, like I'm doing Wii sports, but frankly, it's a serious PITA because I don't see how to switch it off....

I guess the easiest way would be to "rmmod" the sensors' driver module (after you identified its name, that is).

In order to identify the name, you could take a look at what the kernel says when boots (i.e. the output of the "dmesg" command -- you should find somewhere throughout the list the name Oolite reports for the joystick device it uses).
All this should happen in a Terminal window, very likely needing that you "sudo" most of these commands (or execute them under a "sudo"-ed shell).

Perhaps you could also check the in-game Oolite Joystick Configuration and deactivate the relevant axis.
