There is a massive increase in performance between the GT 620 and the GTX 750Ti:

ED and Oolite will run very well now! 8)

It does seem to be a big step up (link didn't work, but I found and compared them). I'll make up the extra cost at work somehow ;)

here is a site that will give a quick compare of two cards....

http://gpuboss.com/

towards the bottom there is a list of comparisons. might be a bit overwhelming at first but it usually starts at the top with a score out of 10 side by side....

i bought a used GTX 560Ti from Overclockers buy sell page here in Aust i got it for around $60 AUD.....

as cody said check if your power supply has the correct number of connectors to power the card. cards use either 6 pin or 8 pin connectors. some use 2 6 pin some use 1 of each.. you get the idea. you can also get molex to GPU power plug adaptors if the PSU doesnt have the right plugs.

to make life easier for you download the latest driver from the net before you swap the card. then uninstall the current driver, power the system off then insert the new card and install the driver you downloaded....

Turns out Ross 154 is only two jumps from Sol, so I got to Sol, SC'd to Earth, had a look at a frankly poor rendition of the planet then spied a signal some 2 million Ls away. How could I resist.

Wowsers, that's an improvement: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-750 ... rce-GT-620

According to Amazon questions, it doesn't require either 6 or 8 pin connector. Just plugs straight in the motherboard video slot. Can that be right? Looking at it externally it seems to have the same style slot connectors as the 620. If I'm wrong I'm sure I can return it ;)

And thanks for the uninstall advice. I'll be sure to follow it when the time comes.

no problem. is it the 750 ti variant you are getting or just the 750?

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-750 ... ce-GTX-750

a 750 is still significantly better thanthe 620 but the ti is even better.....

I'm curious about the EDTracker, but getting it shipped to Canada would be a bit expensive and time consuming. But I might look into it later.
Well, the whole point behind EDTracker is that you don't need to buy it ready-made.. you can build it yourself, if you have or can acquire some basic soldering skills. In fact, plenty of people who've never touched a soldering iron before have successfully done it.

By ordering the circuit-board from Brumster & Co, and getting the other parts on ebay, I can build it myself for around AU$30.

(And if you're looking for more motivation, there's currently a development branch working on integrating head-tracking into Oolite  :D 8) )
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

All the rage, this new-fangled soldering iron stuff.

Headtracking stuff split to Discussion forum. We carry on with Elite Dangerous.

On some commanders finding that they had been 'given' five billion credits:
The billionaires! We decided in the end it was best to reach out to the affected commanders directly (so please check your inboxes) to let them decide what they would like us to do. We’ll either be resetting their credit balances and ranks to their pre-credit-refund values, thus making them eligible for the “Race to Elite” competition again. Or, they may keep their “winnings” and not be eligible for the competition. We felt this was the fairest approach to the situation.
<chortles merrily> Alas, I was not one of them!

Heh, I know I wouldn't be in the running for the Elite competition, but I'd still take the reset - it's a matter of personal pride.

Or I'd blow the money just to see what I could put together with 5 Billion, and reset my game from zero after I played with it a while ;)

On my own front, I've just finished stripping down a keyboard to use exclusively with sims like Elite and Oolite. Only about 20 usable keys left on it, clustered together in appropriate ways (ie targetting/combat related buttons are set along the four rows in one column - targeting general, targetting enemy, taretting subsystem, weapons grouping). I'll be color coding them with acrylic paint, covering the whole thing with a plastic sheet with holes cut out for keys, and where possible adding labels to the sheet to point out what does what. Should look vaguely SF control panel like when I'm done ;)
