Hi, another Beeb player here, starting originally with the cassette-tape version.

I'm loving Oolite -- so much more to see and do than the original, not to mention boundless opportunities to "hack" :D

Cheers.

Welcome aboard, Commander! Yes, Oolite is almost infinitely tweakable - yet it retains the magic of the original!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

G'day jh145, and welcome to "the friendliest board this side of Riedquat.™" 8)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Former Elite player on the Beeb, and I remember the flimsy joystick I had at the time.

Saw this after reading an article on theregister, and now I'm back hooked. Well doing milk runs for cash at the moment. This seems harder than I remember. My first and only kill so far was a head on collision, and I think I had to pay a repair bill of over 1K credits. Could be one expensive way to get to Elite status :)

Ordered a joystick and hopefully by the time it gets here, I've accumulated enough cash to kit up the ship.

Oh btw. How can we keep track on how many times I've died? Be interested to know as we age.

This is not OXPable so I recommend to make an offline record of causes like this:

But try to not die too often to avoid this:

An electronic solution: install [wiki]LogEvents[/wiki], press * before quit when you asked for "press space" and copy your Latest.log file into the next numbered subdirectory in a folder named to graveyard. In this way you can review the finale in the log.

You can store your commander's .oolite-save file here also, together with all snapshots taken during flight. The last one will contain "press space" if you pressed * before quit as I suggested. This is the tombstone of the unlucky commander.

I guess the dev team can display more info in this screen or make an OXPable last message if you ask persistently.

Accidentally, as you can see in the filename of the picture above, this was my 666th.

not a newbie to the board but its been about 2 years since I've Been on here new username (couldn't remember my username password combo) getting old... lol

anyways I had Elite back in the day, even contributed to this board now and again I think I used to me Namttep or some combination of that and a number
(shrugs)

Played elite back in the day, I think I got to dangerous or deadly, but was never ELITE....

Love the game

First computer 48k speccy, then got a 128kplus 3 then an amiga then a pc... I also build and upgrade my own, usually buying a second hand case and Upgrading till nothing is original... but I have built several full systems too....

anyways glad to be back, got a brandnew commander and almost to dangerous again, doing the constrictor mission in galaxy 2 right now.... Hi to all the old crew I used to talk to back a couple of years ago... laters all gonna go find that darn ship...

Hello Everyone!

I am Paladin Tux of The Alliance. I found this game when I was 11 (human years) old. Now 13 and Deadly with 3000 or so kills I am just trying to fit in. I meanit is very hard to fit in when your a penguin. I pretty much get trampped when I get into those Seedy Space bars so watch you step next time you aregoing to have another leathal brandy!

I am currently on my Australian Summer Holidays. Thisso much spare time and a massive horde of ideas Ireallywant to show to the world I am attempting to create my own OXPs (or OXZs when I manage to figure them out). I amworking on a project to bring out Starshipsfrom the universe of 'The Alliance'. I think only 2 people in the world fully know everything about 'The Alliance' so I think I will only needyour help in all that coding and artwork ect...

Anyway it is good finallygeting my forum account. Took me ages...
