Date Bug

Post by davcefai »

Today, for the third time since installing v1.80, Oolite advanced the date by several days.

This rather messes up cargo and passenger delivery schedules.

Today it seemed to me that it added 10 days to the date when the jump should have taken 10 hrs.

Unfortunately I only noticed after a series of events.

I jumped from Inbibe to Laribebi (G2).
Fought my way to the main station.
Sold some cargo I had found floating around the place.
Swapped my Arafura for an Imperial Courier.

At this point I found that:
1. 4 passengers and 3 out of 5 passenger berths had disappeared.
2. The date was 10+ days later
3. I still had the gold and gem stones I was due to deliver but the gold delivery date was past due.
I did not hack the save file, just redid the trip but did not buy a new ship.

The two previous cases did not occur in quite the same way. I did not buy a ship, I just suddenly found myself with "no time" to deliver about 5 high value cargoes. I had to fix that by editing the save file. That's not the way I like to play the game!

When you swapped ships, I presume you had to buy/refit a whole bunch of kit, yes? That can amount to a lot of elapsed time.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Maintenance and misjumps can also eat a lot of time, though I'm not saying that's the case here.

I did not realise that maintenance and equipping take time. I'll try to experiment with this.

Thanks.

Yep.. it's a good idea to avoid them, when on a tight schedule..
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

OK, I tried a quick experiment. Not at Laribebi so there was less stuff I could buy. It took me 5 days to equip the ship.

So I learned something new today!

There is an old Maltese saying: "This is why the old hag does not want to die. The older you get, the more you learn".

Basically, the time required to fit/repair something is related to the cost.. in trunk/1.82, time estimates are/will be displayed next to the items.. for 1.80, you can use the Equipment Aide OXZ to get an approximate idea.
