Ha! I got bounced back into the Rift Worlds due to a saving problem at Belere! I subsequently crossed the Rift again thanks to a lone Anaconda named Pachyderm. I knew with utter certainty that this ship would survive the encounter in interstellar space, which it did easily - only to get pirated at Belere when it emerged after me! It dropped a few cargo pods, grumbled about missing escorts, then headed for the sun to go skimming.

Method: aim for the lower third of the mule's witchspace cloud, then pull-up hard as it fills the screen. Timing, timing, timing!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Not even the largest or most aggressive band of pirates / assassins have done me in. Is it because I'm an ace combateer? No. Do I cloak and run away? Same answer. As a matter of fact, I sold my cloaking device. The trick to survival against large numbers of hostiles is to maintain a safe distance, normally maximum beam laser range. You will take some hits to the aft shield while whittling down their number or, at best, forcing them to withdraw for awhile. Injectors come in handy and will definitely save your life. Once the odds are more favorable, turn and give them a taste of their own medicine. Pirates and assassins are big cowards when all alone.
