Uninstall

Post by davcefai »

My Oolite installation is several years old and is currently at v1.77.

I want to start afresh with 1.80 after removing 1.77 and all the OXPs. To avoid potential problems I thought I'd better ask.

I install by downloading the tar.gz file, extracting and running the .run file. I don't do it via Debian's packaging system or via autopackage.

Is there an uninstall option in the .run file or do I just delete my oolite directory?

Thanks in advance.

OOPS!

I have found an uninstall script in my Oolite directory.

Just for the record, autopackage is not supported since Oolite for Linux 1.75.2-beta release.
Instructions on how to remove the Autopackage environment and all the applications installed with it, can be found here.

Did you manage to have a clean Oolite v1.80 installation?

Yes, totally clean but I spent some time clearing up old versions - don't you just love housekeeping :)

I hadn't played Oolite since November 23rd last year, according to my saved games. I had achieved vast riches and depopulated half the galaxy over the years so starting as a rookie has been quite a revelation.

The new graphics are great. I've come across 2 bugs.

1. Cannot use "5" in naming a savegame. (I've seen this reported)
2. Strange one this, cargo pods sometimes disappear when I miss them while trying to scoop them. There is no "bang"sound and no visual indication of a collision. (Is it a bug. Should I report it?)

On the whole - having lots of fun.

Thanks.

The savegame filename issue is known and will be fixed in a next release.
For the cargo pods I don't have any recollection of such a bug and I cannot find anything relevant in the official issue list...
...try replicating the case without any add-on and if it still persists, please, report it.

Yes Admiral, sir.

Will it be enough to start a new commander or do I have to uninstall the 40 odd addons I have now?

Do not use your saved commander to test.
The easy way to test without add-ons is to rename the parent add-ons folder.

EDIT #1:
Have you installed v1.80 as a Home installation or System-wide installation?

EDIT #2:
The managed add-ons path is ~/GNUstep/Library/ApplicationSupport/Oolite/ManagedAddOns
If you have manually (not from within Oolite) added an OXP, then the probable paths for Oolite home-installation are:
~/GNUstep/Applications/Oolite/AddOns and/or
~/.Oolite/AddOns

Even easier in many cases is to start a Strict Mode game - even if you have addons installed it won't use them, and in 1.80 there aren't any other differences.
