Cobra Mk.III and Torus Drive

Post by V12 »

I observed strange speed behaviour on the torus drive. Cobra's maximum speed on the torus is 11200. But when main planet is at 3 'o clock or 9 o'clock, the ship start accelerate. My record speed is 25500. Is this normal, or some gravitation anomaly like gravitational slingshot ? Or a bug ?

Which version of Oolite are you running? Current trunk (1.81) has somewhat different torus behaviour now.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

<nods> Then yes, I think that is expected behaviour - the torus drive now brakes quicker when mass-locked, but goes faster when no masses are nearby.

The theoretical maximum speed for the Cobra III at the moment is 358400, though you have to be ridiculously far from anything - to the point that your speed is basically meaningless anyway - for that to happen.
