cloaking device... what it good for?

Hi,

I am newb to oolite, just working my way through the missions and have just gained a nice not too shiny cloaking device. Now I have it I'm wondering what is it useful for?

It has several uses - get yourself into a firefight and experiment.

Use it wisely and hope it doesn't get damaged!

If you purchased a trumble lately, you can use it to hide your ship from those who will want to blast you before you infest the next station that you stop by to relax.

forgot to mention not including the bleeding obvious like making you disappear . was sort of going for tactics for its use. So far I have noticed that as soon as you fire your cover is blown. So apart from maybe bounty hunting single targets I'm guessing not a lot?

Think defensive options - but as I said, go experiment (and keep an eye on your energy banks).

Get a respite from attack while manoeuvring in to close range - very useful against thargoids with robot fighters.

Defend against something that the normal defences won't stop (you'll soon figure out what I mean)

But use it sparingly because it eats power.

thanks guys, guess i have a bit of a berserker attitude to combat lol dident consider the defensive side of it. I just tried a few things out against some thargoids and got to admit was good fun sneeking in close range discharge me load (oo er missis) and witch driving away while my energy creeped back up

So far I have noticed that as soon as you fire your cover is blown.

In the past you could keep firing while cloaked, but that felt like cheating. Now it is less of an über-equipment.
