I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

<nods> Just say the word - and what you said about back-ups is oh so true! I expect most of us have lost stuff at one time or another.

Man.. that sucks..Wildeblood wrote:I'm just here to heckle and cause trouble. You won't see OXPs from me because all except two were lost.Diziet Sma wrote:Welcome back mate.. I was starting to think we weren't gonna see you again.
Make frequent back-ups of your files, people! Windows can do the dirty on you at any time, with no warning whatsoever.
If it's any help, I've archived these:
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

One other I have archived is Galactic Hyperdrive 1.1.3
Re: Introduce Yourself.
What do Undocumented Launch and WEBS System do? Also, Wildeblood, your wiki page mentions an Alternative Ooniverses OXP in the works...

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Undocumented Launch is a little hack for leaving the station with controlled goods aboard. On the F3 screen you could bribe the station master to forget to file your cargo manifest with GalCop. I can't remember whether it worked properly or was buggy.Zireael wrote:What do Undocumented Launch and WEBS System do? WEBS was your last line of defence when shields were down. Airbags in the equipment bay. (Goop bags, actually.) Gave you about 1 or 2 seconds extra to hit the escape pod. It was a silly OXP but looked surprizingly good in game, I thought.
Alternative Ooniverse was a version of galactic hyperdrive programmer with maps of my favourite alternative galaxy seeds.
The real losses in the Great Reformatting were the more recent versions of Explorers' Club, the script I used to create Distant Suns, and Save and Jump which I eventually perfected so it wouldn't interfere with other OXPs.

I'd have loved that.... ((Alternative Ooniverse was a version of galactic hyperdrive programmer with maps of my favourite alternative galaxy seeds.
Re: Let's Play Oolite
This seems as good a place as any to chime in. I have not taken the controls of my ship for a loooong time and then I find Oolite 8.0 is available. It is amazing. Thanks everyone for sharing this labor of love.
It does seem harder but that is partly due to me getting a new computer with the power to actually process the program, now I am learning anew the space ways and some of the new behaviors of some of the other commanders. I don't think escort ships like you picking off their employer even if he is a fugitive.

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hello, a new Jameson here. I played Elite when I was knee-high, both in wireframe and the (at the time) stunning Amiga filled polygon versions. This is everything that was and something so much more. Well done and thank you to the devs and the modders. What a game!
Re: Introduce Yourself.
Welcome and enjoy! If you have ideas to make it better (or spot problems) be sure to share them. Also check out the fiction section if you're interested in stories set in the Ooliteverse (cough cough *Mossfoot's Tales of Woe* cough cough)
