Older versions of Oolite
I thought that older versions of Oolite would still be available for those with lower-end machines. Not that I need it(I have saved downloads of 1.76 & 1.77), but others might, and I am unable to locate a download link for anything other than 1.80. If the older versions of Oolite are still available, a link to them should be provided for those users who desire them.

Re: Older versions of Oolite
I think that Oolite already targets low-end enough machines. If one's computer can run 1.76/1.77, then it should run also 1.80 just fine. I would also dare say that 1.80 is more optimized than earlier versions and performance could be even better than before.
Also it should be noted that once a new stable version is out, previous versions are not officially supported anymore and newer versions of OXPs may or may not run on them, so I am not sure what good it would be for people to continue using those old game versions.
Edit: Just did a google search for "download oolite 1.77.1" and the first link it gives me is the one to the sourceforge.net page with all three ports' installers listed and available.

Re: Older versions of Oolite
I do think 1.80 performs a bit better on the netbook than 1.76 did, and it certainly looks better, I guess because a lot of work happened in between to address the look on machines without shaders. (Atom 1.6GHz and terrible terrible Intel onboard gfx.)

Re: Older versions of Oolite
Just to splash my oar about in here, I'd like to see an archive of older (non-maintained) stable and release versions of Oolite accessible on the oolite.org website. With all necessary warnings, caveats and quibbles of course.

Excellent idea.. I always like it when older versions of software are still accessible.. because once in a while, you really need an older version, for some reason.aegidian wrote:Just to splash my oar about in here, I'd like to see an archive of older (non-maintained) stable and release versions of Oolite accessible on the oolite.org website. Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I think its good from a newbies point of view too. we can go back to older versions and see how far the game has come!! Lets everone appreciate the work that has been put in to keep this alive and growing.

"Archived releases" have been appended to the Download section at oolite.org.aegidian wrote:...I'd like to see an archive of older (non-maintained) stable and release versions of Oolite accessible on the oolite.org website...
Archived releases may expose you to security vulnerabilities and bugs that have been addressed in the current Oolite version.aegidian wrote:...With all necessary warnings, caveats and quibbles of course.
These releases are not supported and are only there to exhibit how the game has evolved.
