Space music: Internet Radio stations

Post by Cmdr Wyvern »

Tuning into Blue Mars with VLC and letting the space grooves flow while cruising the lanes was a cool experience. Sadly, Blue Mars went off the air, but conjured a few other space tune stations with it's loss in witchspace. Some I know of...

Deep Space Radio (recently off the air)
Echos of Blue Mars
Dark Phobos

Found another: Space Station

There's others around; I found a couple broadcasting on Icecast already.

The search is on, Commanders. If there's any space groove stations you know of, feel free to list them here.

Nice! I wasn't aware of those.. thanks!
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Seconding the thanks! I used to quite enjoy the monthly IRC ambient radio show which introduced me to the style. 'Tis not something that I would buy, or be able to particularly distinguish between pieces, but I find it rather nice as general background music. These will do nicely!

You mean Gravity Waves? PG always picked quality tracks for his shows.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Ahh... well found, Mauiby! I'd lost the link to that (and my own playlists disappeared too).

Does anyone know if there's a way to play streaming radio stations from within Oolite using an OXP or something? It would be nice to be able to create a competition radio equipment to Hyperradio that actually has a variety of music... :-P

The thought has crossed my mind..

To be honest though, I think it would take some changes to core.. so not before 1.82, probably.

Obviously it's possible to connect to an external server in trunk at least - the debug console does exactly that, so perhaps it's possible in trunk if not in deployment versions?

You could replace the debug console with a programme that monitored the in-game condition (perhaps including some variables set with primable equipment) and switched the channel on an external music player as appropriate.

Probably simpler (and works in a deployment build) would be to have the OXP put particular entries in the log file, and have the music controller program read the log file and look for those entries. You don't really need to go for the debug console substitute unless the external program needs to be able to push data back into Oolite.
