Ship Model Tweak Request - Any takers?
I have a request, specifically for the Neolite Cobra MKII-X
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Cobra_Mk.2_(Oolite)
This is the original version, and the size of it obviously doesn't match up with the fiction (which is described as more like a Cobra MK III with the hull problems fixed, though that still leaves some wiggle room. I reckon they also added in the side lasers and an extra energy bank between 2 and 3 ). This ship, if I'm reading the stats correctly, is smaller than an Adder overall!
But Neolite did his own version for his Companion set
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Neolite_Ships
I was wondering if someone could tell me if he altered the dimensions on his version of the ship, and if so what the dimensions now are in game. If it is about the same size as the original above, could someone possibly make a new model that keeps the design exactly the same, but scales it up so it's on par with the Cobra 1 and 3. If the Neolite version is already boosted in size... woot!
(See, I've got a story I want to write involving this. I'll be removing the ship as a random encounter and only player available.)
If anyone is willing to take this on, can I also trouble them for a custom paint job (just want to replace the snake on it with my logo )
---
Edit - If scaling up is easy, the dimensions would be perfect at 3x those listed on the wiki. That would put it smack dab between the MKI and MKIII in size

I you can send me the .dat file and texture, I will see what I can do. Neither of the two links you posted will work for me... The first link gives me:
The second link takes me to the Neolite page, but clicking on Neolite Core v1.0 gives me:Cobra Mk.2 (Oolite

Weird. The link got partly deleted. It's actually:
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Cobra_Mk.2_(Oolite)
And the Neolite ship data to look at should be at the bottom (version 1.1, not 1.0). Direct link here.

Is that okay?

This link gets auto-borked by phpBB if you're not careful. As you can see, the closing bracket isn't part of the link.mossfoot wrote:Weird. The link got partly deleted. It's actually:

Here it is again, but working.

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Re: Ship Model Tweak Request - Any takers?
Okay, I finally found the model in the aegidian_x_ships11.zip. There is no cobra mk 2 in the Neolite one that I could see...
Anyways, I converted it into an .obj file, and imported it into Wings3D.
It was inside-out! };] Inverted it and then brought in an original core Cobra MK3 and MK1 for comparison...LOL!
Current stats:
30.8466m wide
6.00305m high
22.24997 long
So, I re-scaled it to be the same length as the same size as the MK3 (though obviously not as wide.), results:
This looks about right to me...
90.1137m wide
17.537m high
65m long
Another issue... Look at the writing... Everything is now reversed... I don't know what the converter did, but something is totally wackadoodle! It's as if it was mapped inside out as well.
Anyways, first things first... Is the size about right now?

Re: Ship Model Tweak Request - Any takers?
Don't know why you can't find the one in Neolite, though... hang on...
It's listed in the various NeoliteCompanion folders differently. In textures as CM2X and in Config as Cobra2x (but that's for the HUD I think) and in Models as ncm2x
I can see why you had trouble finding it!
However that rescaling looks spot on to me for the original aegidian version
The question is, how does it look in the Neolite version? Maybe he already beefed up the size?

Don't it just figure.. All that, and I still got the wrong one! Okay, I will go look at the ncm2x first thing tomorrow... It's almsot 1:30 am here.mossfoot wrote:Don't know why you can't find the one in Neolite, though... hang on...

Could you please share the scaled one from aegidian? If I ever update the Smivsified X-Ships, that would definitely go in.Paradox wrote:Don't it just figure.. All that, and I still got the wrong one! Re: Ship Model Tweak Request - Any takers?
Sure, all I did was scale it and correct the mapping however, you will need to re-write the shidata.plist and change view points etc... In the zip is the new scaled .obj and .mtl files (so you can take it into Wings3D or whatever), and I converted it into a .dat as well.spara wrote:Could you please share the scaled one from aegidian? Re: Ship Model Tweak Request - Any takers?
Okay, I was finally able to extract the correct one (I hope!) };] Here it is right after the conversion:
Current stats (I am rounding off this time. };] ):
75.7m wide
10.6m tall
50.5m long
So, does it need re-scaling?
As for textures, you just want your bear logo instead of the cobra (what about "alien letters on opposite side?), or want to change the camo (in space?) paint job completely? I can do texture maps, but not the normal maps or materials...

Re: Ship Model Tweak Request - Any takers?
At least the Neolite version made it bigger I'd like to have it be closer to the Cobra III in size, since the Cobra III is a fixed and upgraded version of the MKII. I'm going to adjust the cargo stats a bit myself to reflect that.
As for the skin - the language and camo is fine, but if you want to surprise me with a new paint job, feel free The logo would be great. When scaled down it ends up kind of looking like it was spraypainted on, which is the point

Ok, I will do the same as I did for the first one, and make it the same length as the MK3.mossfoot wrote:At least the Neolite version made it bigger I'd like to have it be closer to the Cobra III in size, since the Cobra III is a fixed and upgraded version of the MKII. Well, if you are open to a new paint job... muahahaha! };] Perhaps I will do one of each, then you can decide.
