As for multiple forward guns, *PFFT!!!* Oolite is Oolite, ED is ED, let's keep that way please.

My dear sir,

I did not have the intention of derailing your thread here, thus my apologies if I have done so, looks like I was overzealous and posted my ideas in the wrong thread. If my recent posts gave you the idea that I want to turn Oolite into ED, you haven't read them carefully enough. However you were the one that brought up burst fire; which is without a doubt an ED feature and a wish for an oxp to accommodate it, which I applaud; ...speaking of keeping of Oolite is Oolite and ED is ED. That is the reason I dropped my previous post in your thread, but some people can really get their panties in a bunch when the multiple gun subject is brought up. :gives Cmdr Wyvern the same look:

Way back with oolite 1.65, I learned it was far more practical to aim carefully, and fire my weapon with quick pulls of the trigger; as opposed to holding the trigger down in a spray n' pray method.
Manual burstfiring, a trick I was soon recommending to the Jamesons demanding a laser cooler.
Then I figured out my joystick software could be an interrupter gear of sorts. Only recently I figured it should be possible to do ingame.

Anyway, since I came up with it well before Mr. Braben did, it's not so much an ED feature.

But if ya really wanna import an ED weapon, try for that minigun, complete with it's no energy cost, no heating, and a thousand round ammo magazine.
How the hell does gunpowder work in the vacuum of space anyway?

The old precision single-shot method - works for me!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Not exactly... The ROF of beam/military lasers is so extreme, it's about impossible to let off a single round with those things via manual trigger work. Try it and see!

It's a chemical reaction: all the oxygen for combustion is bound up in the mixture. Should work fine. Heat would be a problem, though, probably far more than with a laser: all those explosions, all that combustion, insulated by vacuum. Unless the rounds are mini-rockets or something, that don't ignite until after they've been propelled from the gun barrel (possibly by a spring, if there's no noticeable energy charge).

About the minigun, we already have a [wiki]Railgun[/wiki] OXP from Cmdr McLane.

And I'm still waiting for a burstfire OXP :)

That's true. Athough, I see the railgun as a semi-auto cannon. It fires one round per press of the activation trigger, slinging fairly large projectiles at a speed not much greater than a missile.
A minigun would have full-auto operation, and sling small, very fast projectiles at a rate approaching a thousand rounds a minute.

If done right it would so totally rock. :)
