Re: Another Galactic Mapping Option
This sounds VERY good - look forward to seeing it in the next release!

Re: Another Galactic Mapping Option
This is very cool!
Any chance of making the ANA features work on both the long and short range charts?
Given that views like this are now possible I think it would make sense to make it possible to show routes on the short range chart.

Thanks!Neelix wrote:This is very cool!
I'll have to have a go at combining the long range and short range charts into one zoomable chart. That's probably the way to do things.Neelix wrote:Any chance of making the ANA features work on both the long and short range charts?

Ghah... what I wouldn't do to have a dozen more programmers here ready to work with all the ideas we're coming up with

Re: Another Galactic Mapping Option
I've added zooming onto the short range chart as a first step to combining the two charts - it's on the scrolling-chart branch on github if anyone wants a sneak preview. Page up/down to zoom in/out.
I need to add the system finder and ANA to it, then probably lots of bugfixing

Very cool! Although I think that the long range chart still may have to stay; it's used in cargo, parcel and passenger contracts. Replacing it everywhere may be a bit more complex than it seems, but then again I never imagined this kind of progress in just a couple of days.kanthoney wrote:I've added zooming onto the short range chart as a first step to combining the two charts - it's on the scrolling-chart branch on github if anyone wants a sneak preview. I think I may miss the long-range chart if it disappeared - as a quick reference (including the waypoint marker), it is very handy.another_commander wrote:Although I think that the long range chart still may have to stay; it's used in cargo, parcel and passenger contracts.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Re: Another Galactic Mapping Option
Maybe it would help if there was a key press that would zoom out directly to galaxy level? And pressing that key again could get you back to where you were before on this map (location and zoom level).Cody wrote:I think I may miss the long-range chart if it disappeared - as a quick reference (including the waypoint marker), it is very handy.another_commander wrote:Although I think that the long range chart still may have to stay; it's used in cargo, parcel and passenger contracts.
Re: Another Galactic Mapping Option
That's a good idea, especially if the keypress is F6!

As for a F6 shortcut to zoom out to full chart view, seconding!
Re: Another Galactic Mapping Option
I've just peeked at GitHub and kanthoney has already added the ANA and the other features to the scrolling-chart branch.
Re: Another Galactic Mapping Option
Have you tried it? It's coming along quite nicely.
A slight problem that's coming up is the "i" button, which currently shows the symbols. However, if the planet finder text entry field is in the chart it'll just type an "i" in that instead. Options I've thought of are:
1) Only having the planet finder active when fully zoomed out.
2) Only having the planet finder active after a keypress (such as Enter)
3) Using a non-alphanumeric key instead
It's not exactly a show-stopper, but somebody might have a better idea than those three.

Re: Another Galactic Mapping Option
Haven't tried it, don't have enough time to compile Oolite (leaving in 2 days).
Both sound good, but I'd prefer #1.1) Only having the planet finder active when fully zoomed out.
