If you haven't changed your key settings, ';' will cycle which MFD is active on your currently selected MFD slot, and ':' will change which MFD slot is selected if your HUD has more than one. Look at the "Cycle MFD" and "Select MFD" on the "View Keyboard Settings" screen to make sure.
(If your HUD has no MFDs defined, because it's a pre-1.80 HUD OXP, then you'll need to wait for it to be updated, fix it yourself, or choose a different HUD)

It should be noted that the cycle key also turns them on and off.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

How might I do that? I'm kinda fond of the MilSpec4000 due to its integrated features like sniper scope for purchase and GalCop IFF color change to radar. (though I can picture a better way to lay out some of the elements on the HUD if I knew how )
If those elements are the Comms Log and messages, I could probably help, along with adding some MFDs. What did you have in mind?

Oddly enough that actually wasn't an issue for me.... e.g. I'm able to bring up the navigation MFD without any issues, even though I'm using a pre-1.80 version of smivs' CombatHUD. (I haven't updated to his latest version yet) I assumed it just means that the MFD shows up in a default location rather than a HUD defined one.

Afraid not. I meant changing up the stock MilSpec4000 Hud's layout. I'd be taking all those meters on the right hand side and rearrange them, split them up, make them stand out a bit better (bit wider?). Maybe have the cabin temperature, altitude and speed on the left hand side since they're not combat related but are navigation related. That would give a bit more room on the right for extra shield and energy bars. That kind of thing
But really, I can work with it as is. The only thing I consider essential (so as to not clog up the viewing area) is for the MFDs to show up on the left and right screens, as if it's an extension of the control panel.

I see what you mean by the layout.. it's a bit of a mess, isn't it?
Hopefully you'll like what I've done with it.
I've put in a pair of small-style MFDs, one in each of the upper corners, and ditched the Comms Log and Message GUI that Wildeblood put in, replacing them with repositioned items from the original MilHUDv4. The Comms Log is centred between the MFDs, and the messages on the centre right hand side. It works well on my 1280x800 display, but might need tweaking for your machine. Just let me know if that's the case.

Ahh.. yep.. that's quite a bit more work.

That's beyond my current knowledge, but I might see what I can do.. in the meantime, hopefully my above effort isn't too bad.

I notice that the right MFD provides legal status from the get-go. Normally I have to wait to upgrade targeting for that.
That Combat MFD does look useful.. I haven't tried it out in combat yet.

Actually on my screen at that resolution, the MFDs would fit on either side of the HUD nicely at the bottom (not yours though, it seems)
Indeed they would. I can put them on the bottom if you like. It's an easy change. Are you happy with where the messages are displaying, to the right of the gunsight? It can be moved further to the right to centre the text better, if you want.
Also, you'll notice that so far, I haven't messed with the Sniper Sight views at all. Do you want the MFDs available there as well?

That's definitely something that should be corrected in the Combat MFD, you might want to report it in case Norby misses this one. Which I doubt though .
