Space1999 Eagles - Life in the Space-Lanes

Post by SteveKing »

Welcome back to "Jameson2084.004", I’m the Milky Way Kid and you’re listening to the late shift. Coming up; an Eagles classic.

But first a word from one of our sponsors:

Is your old Adder looking a little worse for wear? Is the Ferdie looking a bit dated? Why not upgrade with a Neolite Ship Kit.
Neolite Ships, at the cutting edge of the Ooniverse. Contact your local Neolite agent. Available at most Tech Levels in a Coriolis near you.

I read an interview recently with 'Spud for two', the brains behind the Eagles tribute - Space 1999 Eagles. He said the inspiration behind the reworked Eagles power number “Life in the Fast Lane” was in due to the recent Thargoid Incursion and the insights of Ooniverse correspondent Drew Wagar.

So here’s the Space 1999 Eagles with “Life in the Space-Lanes”

She was an iron-assed spacer In a Vampire Mark IV
She thought him awfully pretty
He held her up, and she held him for ransom
In the heart of the coriolis city
He had well known reputation as a techno dude
They said she was ruthless, they said she was crude
They had one thing in common, they were good in bed
She'd say, 'Faster, faster. The HUD light’s turnin' red."

Life in the space-lanes, surely make you lose your mind, mm
Are you with me so far?

Eager for action and hot for the chase
The coming attraction, the Thar-goid race
They knew all the maneuvers, she overloaded her mils
They used outrageous tactics, she made dozens of kills
There were beams from the Thargiods flashing poison green
She pretended not to notice, she was fighting hard and mean
Pushed to the limit, they put on quite a show
He was strug-ling to keep her safe, she was too tired to fight much more so…

Life in the space-lanes, surely make you lose your mind
Life in the space-lanes, everything all the time
Life in the space-lanes, uh huh

Blowin' and burnin', blinded by light.
They didn't see the Thargoids leavin’, it was the end of the fight
She said, "Listen baby, you can hear the thrusters ping.
We've been carvin’ up this space-lane; the Spectre’s all done in."
He said, "I’ll call Captain Hesperus, we’re needing his advice."
"Hesperus says he’s comin', but we’ve gotta pay the price."
They went rushin' back through witchspace, hopping in and out again
They didn't care, they were avoiding all the fame

That’s… Life in the space-lanes, surely make you lose your mind
Life in the space-lanes
Life in the space-lanes, everything all the time
Life in the space-lanes

Very well done! 8)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Thanks Dizzie :)

I'll convert the Milky Way Kids patter into ogg files when I get the chance to be added to the Hyperradio chatter. Did you pick up the 'QLDOZ' patter from your Hyperradio thread (for that rural/country feel :D )? I'll try to get a few more of Paul Yorlegge-isms out as well :)

I'll also try to add a few comments about the notariety of Mossfoot's diary as it get's revealed. 'Tales of Woe' has got to gain that sort of recognition in the present Ooniverse!

I'm not sure what you're planning with Hyperradio and Mossfoot, but if I can help in any way, let me know :)

Oh I don't have anything planned... Not sure if I have the audio kit to do it right. But if he wants me to I could give it a try.

I'd have to say this is better than the idea for this song that I was toying about with for a while -
She was an Anaconda pilot on a run to Riedquat,
He thought she was awfully pretty
She wanted excitement, and he paid a king's ransom
To travel to an Anarch city.
He had a reputation as a foolish dude,
They said she was a hardass - they said she was crude,
Right now they'd one thing in common - both were good as dead:
He said, "Faster, faster! The shields are glowing red!"

Life in the slow lane - gonna make you lose your life...

"Welcome to the hotel Coriolis, such a lovely place, out in orbit space..."

Needs a bit of thinking on - such a long song. But I want to try one of the seminal Heavy Rock/Metal songs from Sabbath or Metallica et al.

Some of the Eagles songs have a good sense of big open spaces and long lonely journeys though, just the right feel for a spacer...

@Ranthe: The next "Fast Lane" rework... Maybe a Wierd Al Jankovic version :P

You mean...

like THIS...

ADDER-NOID

Finished with my mamba 'cause she couldn't help me use my mines
People think I'm insane 'cause I fly an adder all the time
All day long I shoot at things but nothing seems to run or die
Think I'll lose my shields if I don't find somewhere to dock and hide

Can you help me? Energy low again
Oh yeah

I need some way to afford the things in life I cannot buy
I can't save for anything two cargo pods is suicide

Make a joke if you must while my lasers charge I sit and cry
E.C.M. I cannot fuel and maintenance is so unreal

Docking's easy yes it's true but all the rest begins to grate
I could have enjoyed life if I'd only traded for a Krait

Hmmm... Harder than it looks. I think I'll leave 'Hotel Coriolis' to you

I could have actually used Woma instead of Mamba but I thought that was a bit too obscure...

Ho-hum...

@Redspear - 'Adder-noid' :D The title is inspired and the feel of what you wrote sings to me. Then "...if I'd only traded for a Krait."

Puts me in mind to look at Nick Caves - Shivers

"I've been contemplating suicide; but flying Adders? Really not my style!"

@Spud42 - yes, Guns 'n Missiles will be back and will be something like a Coyote inspired ballad of 'Dead or Alive'

spud likes very much..... reaches for fender and tab for song........ must practice....

Code: Select all

BON JOVI LYRICS
"Wanted Dead Or Alive"

It's all the same, only the names will change
Everyday it seems we're wasting away
Another place where the faces are so cold
I'd drive all night just to get back home

[Chorus:]
I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
Wanted dead or alive

Sometimes I sleep, sometimes it's not for days
And the people I meet always go their separate ways
Sometimes you tell the day
By the bottle that you drink
And times when you're alone all you do is think

[Chorus]

I walk these streets, a loaded six string on my back
I play for keeps, 'cause I might not make it back
I been everywhere, and I'm standing tall
I've seen a million faces an I've rocked them all

I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
I'm a cowboy, I got the night on my side
I'm wanted dead or alive
And I ride, dead or alive
I still drive, dead or alive
Dead or alive [x4]

now gunners,, sweet child of mine...... could be sweet Cobra of mine.... ???
Arthur: OK. Leave this to me. I'm British. I know how to queue.
OR i could go with

It's amazing how the brain works, subliminal messages :D

I'm sure it was you that corrected me over slash's guitar preference...

All I need now is a 'how to link to a previous topic'... about 4 or 5 ago (in fiction)

Safety Zone by Lenny Log-in

Revvin' up your Cobra
Listen to her engines roar
Shields under tension
Beggin' you to give them more

Flying to the Safety Zone
Ride into the Safety Zone

Headin' into Tiraor
Selling all your goods tonight
Got you jumpin' off the Dodec
And kickin' in your Torus drive

Flying to the Safety Zone
I'll take you
Right into the Safety Zone

The pirates are all comin' after you
And now your e-banks are gonna overload
You'll never unload all that Spoo
Until your Cobra gets in that Zone.

Out on the frontier
Is where I was born to be
Living on the edge
Living out a life that's free

Flying to the Safety Zone
I'm gonna take you
Right into the Safety Zone
Flying to the Safety Zone
Right into the Safety Zone
