Thargons - Am I being thick
I have not played oolite for year... but loaded up new version, oxps and save games, already to go thargon hunting in witchspace. Last year I am sure, I just pulled back the joystick into a spin as the countdown to hyperspace ended... Then I would be in witchspace and confronted by one or more angry thargons. I tried it a few times today and I just safely end up in the chosen system Am being thick?

Hi and welcome. Make sure that you are at maximum pitch up when the countdown ends if you want to enter witchspace. I am not sure whether you can arrive at full maximum pitch with the joystick though (no joystick here, can't test - sorry!). In case you cannot, use keyboard or mouse to reach it and that should work.

Welcome aboard, Doppler - what the Admiral said. I have to use the keyboard for misjumps, as my joystick can't do it.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Thanks both! That worked, I had forgotten how hard it was and 5 Thargons first go, I didn't last long! Practice. Cheers

If you're deliberately Thargoid hunting, ensure that you have oodles of fuel - and injectors!

<nods> There's a new Oolite (1.80) due for release soon, and interstellar space (witchspace, in 80's parlance) will be subtly different.

Sounds interesting ....... Will it still be entered via the up down keys? And sorry but it will always be witchspace to me! Still remember reading about it in the computing magazines of the day and waiting for its release for my CPC 6128!Cody wrote:<nods> There's a new Oolite (1.80) due for release soon, and interstellar space (witchspace, in 80's parlance) will be subtly different.
Re: Thargons - Am I being thick
I take it there is still a small random chance of a misjump in game without it being on purpose? I have yet to have it happen, but I remember it happening once on the old C64.

Yes indeed!Commander Doppler wrote:Will it still be entered via the up down keys?
Yes - it may depend on the level of you ship's maintenance too.mossfoot wrote:I take it there is still a small random chance of a misjump in game without it being on purpose?

Yes. They are Thargoids, not Thargons.Commander Doppler wrote:I would be in witchspace and confronted by one or more angry thargons. I tried it a few times today and I just safely end up in the chosen system Am being thick?

<chuckles>
Thargons are the little robot fighter things. The big ones are Thargoid Warships.

Doppler
You might be interested in my Interstellar Tweaks expansion pack. It creates all sorts of interstellar scenarios. Still, if you are using an version of Oolite >= 1.79, you might want to wait for the new version of the pack (which I am working on). I am unsure how the existing pack works with those newer versions of Oolite (although, that said, I think it works alright, although there are a few bugs, which might be exposed more than before with those newer versions - in short, your mileage may vary). I plan to have the new version out within about three weeks.
