[Release] HyperRadio Musicpack: +cataclysm+

Post by Diziet Sma »

A few years ago, I learned of an album that a friend of mine had made a couple of years earlier, and released under a CC BY-NC 3.0 licence.. it's been floating around on my hard-drive ever since, and I had vague ideas of making a HyperRadio Musicpack for it at some point.

Tonight I finally found a round tuit, and got it done.. So here it is, cryostat37's electronica album, +cataclysm+

It's a musical journey, so properly speaking, the tracks should be played in order, but they stand up well on their own.. the journey gets a little dark, as the title suggests, but IMO ends on a hopeful note.

Here are cryostat37's own notes on the album:
This album was written in around 2003-5 when I worked as a lab tech in a college in Liverpool. I was supposed to submit just a 3min track but ended up submitting the second half of this album. Although being fairly tech savvy, it was the first time I'd encountered Reason (music software) so that's responsible for most of the noise with cubase running the sequencing side of things and samples.

This is my second proper album, the first one had too many songs about badgers, so I wrote this instead. This has nothing to do with badgers but is all about us puny humans who have the intelligence, stupidity and it appears the premeditated intent to wipe ourselves from the fossil record along with everything else.
Tracklist:
  • Floodplain
  • Protean Express
  • Tempest Season
  • Discarded Opportunities
  • Chimerical Mediums
  • Bellcurve - Proliferation
  • Bellcurve - Accretion
  • Bellcurve - Plateau
  • Bellcurve - Freefall
  • Bellcurve - Aftermath
I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Go for it.. it's easy enough to do.. but you should note that the recommendation to reduce the levels to -6.9db is not a hard-and-fast rule.. for some recordings, that may be far too much. It very much depends on the original recording levels of the track in question. I've found that often, anywhere from -2 to -4 db is better. Some experimentation is called for. (For +cataclysm+, the track levels were reduced by -2 to -3 db, depending on the particular track in question)

I have several of my own albums ripped to musicpacks, and a "Rock Gold" compilation.. probably my "Best of Creedence Clearwater Revival" compilation gets the most play.. Run Through the Jungle and Bad Moon Rising set the mood brilliantly when inbound at an Anarchy system.
