Issues on docking seccom stations

Post by ilNibbio »

Hi guys.
Recently I have fatal issues at docking at any seccom station. I am clean, condition green, nice and smooth manouvres (I used to play Elite on Amiga, in late '80s), but when I try to dock I crash into it.
Docking computer says: "station refuses to issue docking instructions" or something like that.
Plz help !!!

Welcome To The Friendliest Forum This Side Of ReidquatTM ilNibbio. The condition should be yellow if there are any other powered craft about.

What ship are you flying? (It could be too big to dock at a SecCom station)
What version of Oolite are you running?

Thx for your reply.
I am running a Oolite v. 1.76.1 on PC. Dozens of OXPs.
I'm flyin' a Python Class Cruiser.
Some days ago I had a Cobra MkIII and no issue... I haven't considered dimensions at all.. So, you mean that not all the ships are allowed in a Seccom? Certain vessels are precluded due to their size?
This should be fixed, imho.
I have chosen the lawful career, I am already a Great One, I wanted to proceed with Navy duties...
So, the next question is: which vessels are small enough to get in ?
I plan to change my ship, sooner or later.. I was thinkin' about a Falcon, or an Imperial Trader, and later on a Supercobra or a Vortex. What about them?

The Python Class Cruiser is taller than it is wide ... try docking when the docking port is vertical.

Just been running some tests with the PCC.

I can confirm the unavailability of the docking computer.
When docking normally, like you would in a Cobra you hit the side of the dock and get bounced around.
But... Like The big D' said If you dock when the port is vertical ie: sideways, then you dock smoothly without any problems.

But since you are thinking of moving on may I suggest an S9! :D

Hi ilNibbio,
I can confirm the 'vertical docking' method - I fly a Boa Clipper which has a similar (taller than it is wide) profile, and that has become my preferred alignment for docking. It seems a bit odd to start with, but you'll soon get used to it. :)

PS A Vortex won't have such issues if you do go for one in the future - it is designed to fit in a standard GalCop letterbox.

Yesss.
I've just docked at a SecCom station successfully.
I entered sideways, as you guys suggested me. Many thanx to all of you.
Now I know, despite it may look odd, how a Python CC (80x90) could enter there.
TY again, Fatleaf, Thargoid, Smivs, The Big D' Disembodied, and all the people who contributed in making such great game !!
I love you men.

Makes me wonder... Has the Python CC his landing gear on the right or left side? Or both sides, but that seems like a waist.

Glad I found this in the archive. My docking computer is aligning me this way all the time now and I panic and think I am going to crash and put it on manual for the final approach. I thought it was a bug, but it's just the computer acting logical. lol

I guess in my head I am still flying a Cobra III instead of the much bigger Python Class Cruiser :)
