Speech only for radio messages?
At the moment voice messages are either on or off; when they're on every status update (such as locking onto a wormhole or even changing view from forward to aft) gets a verbal message. This soon gets VERY annoying, at least for me.
What I'd prefer is an option to have speech only for messages received from other ships, docking control, etc., and not for other status updates. Any way this could be done? Or is there already an OCX that does it I've missed?

Hi ffutures, welcome to the boards! It's the friendliest place this side of Riedquat, or your pizza is free. At the moment all we seem to have on hand are variations on dumb pilots such as myself, but someone a bit more qualified to respond to your queries will be along soon, I'm sure. Meanwhile, feel free to listen to some light music ...

I'm wondering if BGS would have that option - it is quite configurable.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

What Cody said, although you will need to edit it yourself.
What you will need to do is install bgs, then open the Config folder and then take a copy of the customsounds.plist inside. Keep the copy somewhere safe, then using a text editor (see note below) open the plist. Decide which sounds/voice messages you don't want and either delete them or comment them out by putting two slashes before the line to be commented.
For example if you don't want the scoop warning go to line 72 which looks like this
and add the slashes like this
This will then revert to the in-built scoop sound. Comment out all the sounds/voice messages you don't want and you should be good to go.
To find the actual sound files, look in the Sounds folder, where you can hear them to check which is which if that helps, and indeed you can replace those you don't like as well
Re text editors, DO NOT use notepad - it breaks things by adding spurious characters. Notepad++ is OK as are most other editors. You will also need to flush the cache to make the changes work - hold down the shift key when starting the game, until the spinning Cobra appears.
Oh, and Welcome

It's not possible at the moment, and not really controllable by OXP, but it should be fairly straightforward to add "comms only" as an option to the speech synthesis - I've opened a feature request entry so I don't forget about it.ffutures wrote:What I'd prefer is an option to have speech only for messages received from other ships, docking control, etc., and not for other status updates. Thanks - I'm a bit tied up for the next few days but will try the bgs thing when I can find some time to do the editing. I use Notetab pro for text and HTML editing, I assume that will be OK?

Yes. I tried it now to check and it is ok but for javascripts I like more the configurable syntax highlighting in Notepad++ and F4 in Krusader under Linux.ffutures wrote:I use Notetab pro for text and HTML editing, I assume that will be OK?

And done. The options for speech synthesis are now "off", "comms only" and "on", from tonight's nightly build.cim wrote:It's not possible at the moment, and not really controllable by OXP, but it should be fairly straightforward to add "comms only" as an option to the speech synthesis

Indeed.. that is most excellent news.Zireael wrote:*jumps up and down*
