Warehouse storage facility
Not knowing the most profitable system/planet to trade goods to can be a pain (especially early on in the game, where credits are all important.
Maybe you could have the option to buy or rent a storage facility at a space station.
E.g if you buy witchspace engines somewhere you could take them to your storage facility before finding the most lucrative planet to take them to, thereby maximising your profits.
Sorry if someone has posted a similar idea before.

Re: Warehouse storage facility
Or just buy a bigger ship to haul them around in?
tbh - the main things in the game worth flying around looking for the best profit margin, take up less than 1 tonne of cargo space anyway, so not as if storage would help.
Also, having storage in one system doesn't help you much if you find a sweet spot for selling an item several jumps away. Seems to me that you'd not make a lot of money that way.

Re: Warehouse storage facility
You are of course correct Sendraks regarding getting a ship with a larger cargo hold, the problem is affording one. You can always buy me a ship with a 500tn cargo bay if you like.
My idea was intended for new players (who cannot afford a new ship)as a short term way of increasing their credits.
The warehouse would be rented or bought at a fraction of the price of a new ship.

Re: Warehouse storage facility
Well that kind of circumvents one of the core parts of the gameplay, i.e. working away to afford the larger ship to move your cargo around.
Also, as I already stated, having a warehouse located in one system is of limited use if the location for making profits is many jumps away. So i'm not sure this solves the "problem" in any way.
If as a player you're looking for extra storage space, you might want to consider the Hypercargo OXP. http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/HyperCargo_OXP

Re: Warehouse storage facility
There are a few New Cargoes items which storing in a warehouse rather than carrying around permanently might make some sense due to their rarity and the transient nature of their buyers. Even with a fairly low storage fee, though, you'd have to plan quite carefully, and it'd definitely be more use to advanced traders than beginners. I can't see an obvious case where a beginner would be better off buying something, storing it, paying storage fees for some time, then selling it, though - it's unlikely to increase a beginner's profits, and having a significant fraction of early game wealth tied up in a storage facility twenty light years away seems like it would make things harder, not easier.
What sort of things are you thinking of storing?

Re: Warehouse storage facility
Cim. I recall some time ago now that I bought some witchspace engines, that I sold for a profit, only to find a little later another system where I could of got 30cr per tn more. At 35tn x 30cr in my cobra that makes for a lot of additional profit missed. By storing the goods and even taking account of using extra fuel exploring other systems and then returning to a warehouse to load the goods, I could of still made more money.
I am sure there would be many other examples of other goods that could also make use of a storage facility in this way.

Re: Warehouse storage facility
While main station storage space might be at a premium cost, storing on-planet (planetfall OXP tie-in) might be doable.
And storing at a Rock Hermit might be pretty cheap as well. Just suck if you lose it.

Basically any goods that are not gold, plat and gems.willo wrote:I am sure there would be many other examples of other goods that could also make use of a storage facility in this way.
I'm not opposed to the idea. Indeed, for the forward planning player, if you started stockpiling a product likely to be particularly profitable and then wait until you have a ship capable of hauling it all to your chosen destination, you'd be laughing.
Re: Warehouse storage facility
Maybe. It depends where the two importers were relative to the exporter, and whether you're trying to optimise profit per trip, profit per jump, or profit per day. Still, it certainly seems like there's a demand for it, and the local businesscreatures of New Cargoes would be foolish not to try to meet it - I'll put it in the next version.willo wrote:Cim. Re: Warehouse storage facility
I don't know if it would help, but there might be some usable code in the Extended Shipyard or Ship Storage Helper OXPs. I don't know if it could be done the same way, but I saw this and thought I would mention it.cim wrote:Maybe. Re: Warehouse storage facility
The tapestry in New Cargoes would be a good one to store. Since there's only one world that wants to pay really big bucks for the thing, you could accumulate parts, collect them all before a galactic jump, then carry on with the process in the new system.
