Re: Progress
Ok, thanks. I was wondering because some of the older ship packs like wolfwood's variants are still nice, but some of the other authors (wolfwood was in recently, I believe) are gone and their ships are probably unlikely to be updated and so I was wondering.

Re: Progress
Progress indeed - for the first time in ages, I've been bested by a Ferdie (mind you, I was already damaged, and it did have fiendishly accurate fore and aft lasers).
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Re: Progress
The fix for the razor-sharp day/night terminator problem is now in master, so you should see some sexy-looking planets in the next nightly build.
Re: Progress
Having said that, it looks as though the specular component is in the wrong place, right on the terminator. Ah well, it's progress.

Re: Progress
You, sir, are awesome.
Just wanted to say here that there is no real need to wait for the next nightly if someone wants to see the fixed planets. Since the change is only in the planet vertex and fragment shaders, one can just download the current master github snapshot (click on Download ZIP) button, then extract the files oolite-default-planet.vertex and oolite-default-planet.fragment into Resources/Shaders and Shift-restart.

Re: Progress
Excellent!
The brightness of the specular effect could probably be toned down quite a bit, too. It makes the planets look a bit like a snooker ball, over the sea.kanthoney wrote:Having said that, it looks as though the specular component is in the wrong place, right on the terminator. Ah well, it's progress.

I'm competent! It says right there!another_commander wrote:You, sir, are awesome
Looking at the specular effect again, it would probably be in the right place if you swapped over day and night, so the shader thinks the light source is directly opposite where it actually is. There's a stray minus in there somewhere.
Shh! Before someone suggests a Cosmic Snooker OXP!cim wrote:It makes the planets look a bit like a snooker ball

Re: Progress
May I suggests a Cosmic Snooker OXP, where you can play billard with planets?
Might use the sun as a hole.
Just a suggestion.

That was my first Java applet that I wrote for a multimedia course in 1996 at JMU. At the time, I called it "game of the gods"Lestradae wrote:May I suggests a Cosmic Snooker OXP, where you can play billard with planets?

'Oh, I've heard of worse', said Ford, 'I read of one planet off in the seventh dimension that got used as a ball in a game of intergalactic bar billiards. Got potted straight into a black hole. Killed ten billion people.'
'That's mad', said Mella.
'Yes, only scored thirty points too.'
Re: Progress
Tonight's nightly build will contain some new ship textures (including a new alloy model) from CaptSolo for some additional improvements in texture quality.
If you're using the rsync updating method, it will be a larger download than usual.

Numeric keypad keys don't seem to work any more (oolite-trunk-1.79.0.433763a-dev.x64).
Oh and very nice new sun feature.

They look pretty good too - a definite improvement.cim wrote:Tonight's nightly build will contain some new ship textures (including a new alloy model) from CaptSolo for some additional improvements in texture quality.
