As I proposed here, I would like to clean up the [wiki]OXP List[/wiki] again, namely
  • removing the "Licensing Problems" section and putting the OXPs in its list back into the main list
  • removing the "OXP difficulty" section and instead joining content with the "OXP difficulties" section on the [wiki]OXP[/wiki] page
  • additionally I propose to move the "OXP Categories" section to the bottom of the page and mention it at the top. That way, the actually important content (the list) moves directly to the top. Alternative: move the OXP Categories to their own page.
Yes, agreed. I hadn't considered moving the catagories to the bottom, but it makes sense, and Norby's points are worth considering as well, not least to shorten the page a bit!

Mmh, if you mean the point about the separate list for OXPs that are not properly licensed then I'm still against it for the same reason: it's an author-centric view and makes players suffer going through two lists. Or am I missing something?

Agreed.. licensing problems are not a player concern.. but such a list should definitely be (prominently) linked somewhere for OXP authors to reference.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

No, I meant the WIP and 'problems' lists - I agree licensing issues are irrelevent to the list.

Yes, either a list that is maintained and linked to from somewhere (how about the "See also" section on the [wiki]OXP howto[/wiki] page), or a clear notice on the respective OXP's wiki page.

I prefer the latter: authors who want to modify somebody else's OXP are almost guaranteed to look at its page, nobody has to maintain yet another list, and we get wiki pages for a few OXP's that don't gave one yet.

How do we merge the difficulties list with the OXP page?

And about the licensing - authors use the OXP list, too, and there were a lot of people asking around about modifying eg. Deepspace, that's why I made the section. Alternately we could use an asterisk or something to mark those OXPs...

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

I would only link to it. What's the idea for finishing it and keeping it maintained in the future?

Certainly authors use it, too. They are just not the main target group for this page. It is perfectly fine to use another page for that.

They do, but if someone wants to modify an OXP, it is most likely one that they have already downloaded. In that case they will have all the licensing details (or lack thereof).

Good point. The more I think about it, the more it seems like a solution to a problem that does not exist.
