Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
My card (GeForce GT 330M, inside a 3-year-old MacBook Pro 15' with a 2.4GHz Core i5 processor) isn't listed at all, so the list isn't particularly useful for me.
Being on a Mac, I'll have to wait for the final game anyway (and perhaps then some, because I don't expect the Mac version to be released at the same time as the PC version), even though my level of backing would give me access to the first round beta.

No access to any sort of PC where you can at least have a look at the beta?Commander McLane wrote:My card (GeForce GT 330M, inside a 3-year-old MacBook Pro 15' with a 2.4GHz Core i5 processor) isn't listed at all, so the list isn't particularly useful for me.

That's a similar card to mine. If it was in a PC, ED might be ok. I don't know how Macs compare directly to PCs though?Commander McLane wrote:My card (GeForce GT 330M, inside a 3-year-old MacBook Pro

Yes, my work laptop. However, that's off-limits for games (and has only on-board graphics anyway, I think).Gimi wrote:No access to any sort of PC where you can at least have a look at the beta?
Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
Yup, I was merely referring to the requirements published by Frontier. Admittedly they said that they did not have any lower spec machines to try the game on so their recommendation was simply based on the computers that they had on the premises.JazHaz wrote:Thats too simplistic. My card is well below that level, yet the alpha is fine on my machine. Yes I have to run in a low resolution, but the game is playable (I'm getting 20-30 FPS).

Here's a link to my preview of the alpha:

And if you want to look at very many gameplay videos of Elite without any nagging voice telling you what you are seeing, there's a lot of them here:

I love the article, Wolfwood, it's brilliant! Almost makes me wish I had the video card and money to play E:D!Wolfwood wrote:Here's a link to my preview of the alpha:

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
I know it's an odd thing to notice in a combat video, but... is that a bobble-head mascot of some kind sitting by the top left of the targeting scanner? I'm curious as to if it's a purchasable novelty like Oolite's "Beer Cooler" and "Ships' Cat"JazHaz wrote:My first video for Elite Dangerous Alpha is being uploaded as I type this.

Yeah, it's a damn bobblehead (or a christmas tree, or nothing, atm).Ranthe wrote:... is that a bobble-head mascot of some kind sitting by the top left of the targeting scanner?
Therein lies the problem... it would distract my eye during combat.Ranthe wrote:I know it's an odd thing to notice in a combat video
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Clearly, it's a Dentist-Bot!Another new addition, I wonder what this little fella does?
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
