<looks around - no penguinistas> Welcome aboard, Spudnic - you ask 'em, and I'll dodge 'em alright. <slips back into the shadows>
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

G'day Spudnic, and welcome aboard! 8)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Yes  accidently put net instead of com on my (rarely used) provider's email...for some reason the registor didn't like yahoo or gmail.
BTW, I am old thus the learning curve has become sooo much steaper. Looking into some usb device to reduce keyboarding....any suggestions? I read about the Xbox drv on the wiki. Is that still the way to go?

By "Xbox drv" I presume you're referring to this page on the Wiki?

If you have an XBox or similar style controller already laying around, then by all means try that out.. otherwise, if you're like most of us "retro" older farts around here, you'd probably feel more comfortable with a joystick than a controller. Linux handles most joysticks well, straight out of the box, with no need to install any software. I use a Saitek Cyborg Evo stick with my Linux Mint computers.. others will no doubt have other recommendations.

Simply press F1 (or 2, 3, 4) to return to internal view.

Thanks Cody.... suffered a little confusion with dual purpose keys depending on mode. I get it now. Another weird thing is seeing all the small ships comming in and out of station bays willy nilly and yet the beginners ship (MkIII) must be aligned perfectly to enter as if the ship is huge. Must be why its called a Game

The Cowell & MgRath Cobra MK III is actually quite a large ship - 130x30x65m - so you gotta get it right.
