Re: The Oolite chatroom
Sorry it has taken me few days to notice this but OFTC network has banned Mibbit exit nodes from the network. The reason is given here: www.oftc.net/MibbitGouanaco wrote:I cant seem to access the chat... i keep saying that i don't have permission to Join #oolite on irc.oftc.net :/
Also it blocks mibbit which is the only client that really works on my computer all the others dont work because of my network :/
Why cant i access it with mibbit? I would really like to start chatting on irc.

Re: The Oolite chatroom
Apologies for my current absence from DS's.
Unfortunately my computer went bang - well a doughnut-shaped thingy in the PSU did anyway. New one is on the way so hopefully I'll be up and running in a couple of days.
To tide me over I've had to go back to retro-computing hell, and pulled my ten plus years old? computer out of the cupboard. Nothing to love about it (single-core Celeron processor, XP Home and IE6) but at least it works so I can look in here and grab emails (yes, with Outlook Express!).
<pleading>Please hurry up, new PSU, I need you!</pleading>

Seems to be the season for PSUs blowing. Mine went last Monday. Currently using a Hudl until the replacement comes.

<nods> I know two people whose PSUs have blown in the last fortnight.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Yes, in all fairness it is OK. I've used the built-in Opera mail client for 6-7 years now (which is very different in some ways), so it just seems a bit, well odd.UK_Eliter wrote:I quite liked Outlook Express . .Smivs wrote:(yes, with Outlook Express!).

Re: The Oolite chatroom
I myself quite like (or perhaps have just got used to) Thunderbird. (I use a de-Metrofied Windows 8.1.) That is perhaps because of all the (desktop) e-mail clients I have tried, or at least found tolerable, I find it the most like Outlook Express. That said, I've moved just now from Office 2003 to Office '365' (/'2013') and it has Outlook (the full version) included. So I might try that. Still: getting Outlook to work (at all) seems a bit difficult (and I had a load of hassle getting Word 365 to work too; unbelievable - or rather typical for Microsoft).Smivs wrote:Yes, in all fairness it is OK. Relatedly (and if I am not going on too much) does anyone have any tips for speeding up text input in Word 365 / 2013, aside from disabling hardware acceleration, animation and the sub-pixel positioning thing? (None of those seem to help much/enough on my computer, although using a program called Process Lasso to treat Word as a game (!) may be helping somewhat.) I'd be grateful for any advice!

Re: The Oolite chatroom
Having trouble with this after being away so long...
When I attempt to connect, I can attach to irc.oftc.net, but I get the following message:
[13:36] NickServ![email protected] NOTICE Cmd_Cheyd :This nickname is registered and protected. If it is your nickname, you may
[13:36] -NickServ- authenticate yourself to services with the IDENTIFY command. You are
[13:36] -NickServ- getting this message because you are not on the access list for the
[13:36] -NickServ- Cmd_Cheyd nickname.
It won't let me pull up a Channel list or do much of anything else... Anyone know what's up with this? Did I forget a setting I need to provide?

Re: The Oolite chatroom
The channel shows that you were connected for 3 minutes between 20.05 and 20.08 UK time. Have you tried authenticating the name?
You need to type in (without the quotes) "/nickserv IDENTIFY yourpassword"
This assumes you remember your password of course
That might sort it out.
