It creates an Oolite folder under Start for me (and removes it at uninstall). Are you looking at All Programs? That's where the Oolite folder item will be created, not directly on the Start Menu root. Also, there will be quite a few items under that folder, not just the game executable shortcut.Cody wrote:I'm a little confused (not unusual) - when I install trunk, Oolite doesn't create a Start Menu item. I have to create it myself, and pin it to the Start Menu. When I uninstall Oolite, I then have to unpin the link to remove it. Or am I talking at cross-purposes, and not understanding something? It has been a long night.another_commander wrote:Can someone please confirm that the uninstaller problem has now been fixed, so that we can close issue #60?

I'm obviously too tired, I think. I've just uninstalled trunk again, but the Oolite-Trunk folder remains in All Programs.
You maybe need someone else to check this, Admiral.

Let me check something real quick... Will be back.
Edit: Confirmed that it works on my system for build 45289bb. Cody, are you running from an administrator account or a standard user one? Are you changing any of the default options like folder etc. during installation?

Re: Uninstaller on Windows does not remove entries from Star
Using the same build. I'm running as Administrator, I'm installing to my D: partition (so not C:), and unchecking Basic Debug - what do you need me to do?
I've now deleted the whole Oolite-Trunk folder, and am ready to start from scratch.

I just installed by replicating your steps, except for the D: thing, as I do not have such a partition. It uninstalled cleanly. Can you try installing under C: rather than D: and see if that changes anything (it shouldn't)? What is your exact Windows version?

Windows 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 64-bit. Okay, clean install to C: and uninstalled no problem - Start Menu items removed. Same for the D: install - it now removes them (even without a subsequent clean install). Maybe the clean install cleared something - but all seems well here now. One of those things, I suppose.
Can I go out to play now, Admiral?

Done it to me again, the game has - viciously ambushed me after the first jump. A few of these appeared, but relevant to what, I know not (I may as well post it here):Cody wrote:It's amazing how often Oolite does that to me on the first run of a build.

Part of me is tempted to request that this behaviour NOT be fixed!Cody wrote:but watching a miner shouting 'die' and other imprecations at a rock is cracking me up!
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I know what you mean, and it kinda fits an eccentric, stir-crazy miner. I felt that way about the short-lived, but beautiful, rainbow spacedust bug.Diziet Sma wrote:Part of me is tempted to request that this behaviour NOT be fixed!Cody wrote:but watching a miner shouting 'die' and other imprecations at a rock is cracking me up!

There could be miner-specific phrases ... something along the lines of "Hi-ho, hi-ho ..." maybe?

I like that idea. NPCs have never been more entertaining - even when they're slaughtering me!Disembodied wrote:There could be miner-specific phrases

I've been not getting around to fixing that for a while.Diziet Sma wrote:Part of me is tempted to request that this behaviour NOT be fixed!Cody wrote:but watching a miner shouting 'die' and other imprecations at a rock is cracking me up!
Most of the NPC speech in the current 1.79 is only in for testing purposes - doing it properly would involve a lot more variety than there currently is, which would make producing translation OXPs much more time-consuming. There is, however, a fairly straightforward OXP interface to set up NPC speech (including miner-specific phrases, and indeed a finer-grained approach so that only some miners yell at the rocks), including the option if done properly to set up multiple "NPC speech sets" which are entirely compatible with each other.
I intend to take out most of the NPC speech - a few messages which convey important information to the player excepted - before release. But there's no hurry on that, and it would be nice if there was a better OXP speech set available before that point. Indeed, someone who is not me trying to set up a speech set OXP is probably an important test of this bit of the 1.79 code, since it will pick out points where the current speech events are insufficiently detailed or entirely missing.
Re: Uninstaller on Windows does not remove entries from Star
Probably you haven't taken out quite the right combination of OXPs, though I don't know exactly what.Cody wrote:Done it to me again, the game has - viciously ambushed me after the first jump. I intend to set up a small OXP that should make existing shipset OXPs temporarily compatible with 1.79, to help with testing.
