It should, but is badly tested because none of the developers used that old system when the last changes for that system were made. I briefly tested it shortly before release on my oldest active mac.

But, why not upgrading to 10.6? That update is not very expensive and is still supported by Apple. I upgraded earlier this year from 10.5 to 10.6 when Safari, Firefox and Chrome stopped releasing updated versions for that system. Without getting security updates, it is not desirable to use system 10.5 any longer. (Unless your hardware does not allow an update)

Isn't 10.9 Mavericks free for you as well? I thought that was the general idea from Apple, or is the hardware not supported?

Marvericks is free, but you need at least Snow Leopard (10.6) to perform the free upgrade. When starting from 10.5, you need to buy 10.6 first. (Or 10.7 or 10.8). But it is not expensive as you can buy it for about €18.- Tiger was much more expensive with about € 100.- and I think Leopard itself was just as expensive.
In my case I did the update to 10.6 first, but last week I indeed upgraded that computer to Marvericks.

And for Marvericks you need a computer from ± 2007 or newer.

Disabling my weapons is anathema to me - but as Big D says, I suppose I'll have to get used to it. <wanders off, grumbling>
I have never 'safed' my weapons - I don't know about getting used to it - I'll have to find out how to do it!
Ever since I accidentally shot up a Coriolis while on final approach when reaching for the thrust controls ( ) and had to jump through over three systems to clear my record, I've made a point of 'safeing' my weapons once in the station aegis...

I actually assign the "weapons online/offline" command to a button on my joystick. One of my commanders has a ship with turrets on, and it seems easier than using the prime/use equipment with the Turret Toggler OXP. Mind you, I've got buttons to spare and it makes a nice, safety catch-type "click" when you arm them.

It's more of an immersion thing with me - I tend to fly with weapons offline by default, and only arm them when the situation demands it, or I'm feeling paranoid. It'd be quite interesting if NPCs flew with offline weapons as default too, and ships with powered-up weapons (eg. pirates or people fighting them) appeared differently on the scanner - if maybe a bit Trekkie: "Captain, the approaching vessel has armed its weapons!"

As regards "safing, safed" and what have you...

Ditto.. but I'd rather "hotwire" it than get used to it..
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

<grins> I'd already disabled the toggle in my keyconfig on principle.

After a couple of visits from the purple flags while docking after accidentally shooting the docking bay I have been disengaging weapons as part of my own docking procedure. Now I tend to fly with weapons safe unless I feel unsafe, I deliberately fly into combat (rare for the time being) or someone gets a lock.

I just wish there was a safety catch on 'eject cargo' too...

I have my own version of a safety catch ... I assign certain functions to "Shift-[key]" instead of just "[key]" (to put the weapons offline, for example, I have _ instead of -). It's a lot harder to accidentally trip something that way!

Wa already have a safety catch because the fast docking used to be activated with shift-D. In those days you saw a lot of cargo floating around the stations. :)

Most of it done by me! Lave school children are probably wondering why they only get one computer per classroom.
