Re: Any advice?
New Cargoes trade goods are available through a separate specialist market. Look on the F4 screen (if using Oolite 1.77 or later) or press F8 three times in a row (Oolite 1.76)
Re: Any advice?
Okay, i'm looking at that part and there is something called specialist cargo deliveries and a once in there they give you a few items to buy like Durassion Ore and a few others.. and yeah it looks like there are 100 trade goods over ALL the galaxy so i will need to fly a little longer to check them all.cim wrote:New Cargoes trade goods are available through a separate specialist market. Thank you cim!
And by the way.. how do I check the auctions?
Re: Any advice?
Auctions - if there is one running at the moment - will be under "Enter the trade floor".Nachodsk wrote:And by the way.. how do I check the auctions?

Last thing will be, is there any speed increaser? my spaceship is terrible speed :l
How about a station locator or something like that? At first I tend to lose track of where are the stations in the whole space
Thank you!
Re: Any advice?
You can buy Witchdrive Fuel Injectors at the higher-tech systems. They use fuel fairly quickly, so don't overuse them.Nachodsk wrote:Last thing will be, is there any speed increaser? my spaceship is terrible speed :l
Your ship also has the built-in torus drive, which lets you go even faster than injectors, and doesn't use fuel. The catch is that the high-density power sources onboard other ships interfere with it, so you can only use it at condition Green.
Your HUD has a basic compass on it, which points to the planet. But once you get close to the planet, it will change to point to the main station.Nachodsk wrote:How about a station locator or something like that? At first I tend to lose track of where are the stations in the whole space
You can also buy an Advanced Space Compass in many systems, which will let you get the direction to many stations and other objects of interest.
(If you haven't yet read the Reference Sheet,
OoliteRS.pdf
should be in your installation, or you can download it from the link at [wiki]Oolite_Instruction_Manual[/wiki] - that will tell you which keys to use to turn on these bits of equipment once you've bought them)Re: Any advice?

Re: Any advice?
Perhaps we ought to consider renaming that document to "Oolite Reference Sheet.pdf"...cim wrote:(If you haven't yet read the Reference Sheet,OoliteRS.pdf

"OoliteRS" isn't very intuitive.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
Re: Any advice?
I remember how long it took to figure out how to do anything. All I could do was putter around the Lave Coriolis station and fire lasers. When I kept getting slaughtered I decided this isn't a game you can just figure out on your own, at least not without great difficulty.
Re: Any advice?
A lot of the information about the game does assume to some extent or another that you already know what it's about, I think. I found everything fairly straightforward but that was from a background of having played Elite/FE2/FFE quite a lot: sorting out the documentation to give a better introduction to the concept is something I want to do for 1.79.

There's also cim's in-game manual, downloadable as an OXP and then accessible via the F4-key.Hans Olo wrote:I remember how long it took to figure out how to do anything. Re: Any advice?
That would have been very handy! You still have to look for it online, though. For a new person who had never before heard of Oolite or Elite it is nearly impossible to learn how to play by just hitting 'download' and opening the game. That being said, after a quick google to find out what you need to know, it isn't hard to catch on.Commander McLane wrote:There's also cim's in-game manual, downloadable as an OXP and then accessible via the F4-key.Hans Olo wrote:I remember how long it took to figure out how to do anything. Re: Any advice?
Now THAT'S an OXP I'd like to nominate for bundling with the core game.. thinking back, I seem to recall having read here and there of people who gave up on Oolite simply because they couldn't figure it out.. these days a lot of folks seem to expect games to guide newcomers in how to get going. Having to RTFM is too old-fashioned, I guess..Commander McLane wrote:There's also cim's in-game manual, downloadable as an OXP and then accessible via the F4-key.
Edit: Oops.. I see JazHaz has already started a thread on this subject..

Re: Any advice?
Heh. That was the original plan for it. Then I got carried away because - like the original manual - I felt it should be an introduction to the universe as well as to your keyboard, and included a whole load of setting information that ... let's just say it doesn't match the Elite setting (any version of it), though for me personally it matches what you see in game a bit better. My private copy has an additional chapter on Cooperative history which makes the differences rather more obvious. This is fine for an OXP but I think would need a lot of rewriting to include in the core game.Diziet Sma wrote:Now THAT'S an OXP I'd like to nominate for bundling with the core game..
