It was time for a springclean

Post by Bugbear »

Against all expectation I was able to ressurect my old commander piloting the Boa Class Cruiser: Quantum Pelican.

I wasn't totall happy with the 'stability' of my save file so on a whim I performed a total reinstall of Oolite + fresh download of my favoured OXPs.

I even found a few new OXPs that I think will favourably alter my Ooniverse (i.e. my Ooniverse is about to become a nastier place...).

Having said that, I've been blown away by the improvements that have been made to some of the OXPs I've come to love - Background Set, I'm looking at you. Loving the new docking and hyperspace sequence.

And now I have breakable standard equipment, smarter NPCs, a whole range of exciding new missiles and weapons.

To boot I'm about to kick off Coyote's Run (as I'm currently in chart 5). Just need to drift over to the entry point for the mission.

Moral of this story: If you've been lax in keeping your OXPs and Oolite base install up to date, give a fresh download and reinstall a try. You'll be amazed.

By a happy coincidence, this is just what I'm about to do..

I've wiped my hard drive and upgraded my OS to Mint 15, finally got the ancient Athlon XP CPU clocked at 1.8 GHz instead of 1.0 GHz, Front-side Bus upped from 100 MHz to 333MHz, and am about to go with a clean install of 1.77.1.

I'm looking forward to seeing how much things improve.. 8)

(now if only I didn't have all this other work to do before I can play!) :( :x
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Be careful with upgrading. I upgraded my mac this weekend to Marvericks. Before installation it did a compatibility test of recent used applications: I got a warning that Oolite_1.40 and Oolite_1.55 are no longer compatible with Marvericks...

 <tries to work out why on earth anyone would clutter up their computer by keeping such old versions of Oolite around>

They aren’t compatible with 10.7 or later on account of being PowerPC-only.
