Heh.. great story, and a clever idea..

The builder certainly appears to be an Elite fan.. :D
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Not necessarily, he could just be a 'flying saucer' fan. The model is not an octagon, but a dodecagon. If he were an Elite fan with some knowledge, he wouldn't have mixed that up.

Very good point.. though he may have been 'forced' to make some design changes based on what materials, parts, etc, were available to him.. certainly it appears to have been fabricated from pre-existing components.

My Daughter's school did something similar last year, only without the space ship.
The kids (and the parents) enjoyed it a great deal and certainly seemed to get a lot out of it.

It is real, you can touch it and smell it and it is no no photoshop action.
