An article in today's Grauniad about Copenhagen Suborbitals, a non-profit organisation working towards launching a human into space. On the way they've already launched the most powerful amateur rocket ever flown and created their own budget (but functional) spacesuits, using valves and pipes from hardware suppliers. They also run g-force tests on fairground rides, hired for the purpose.

Peter Madsen, one of the co-founders, has form: with friends, he designed and built a 40-tonne submarine from scratch, for £125,000, in 2008.

I've been following their progress for a while - and I love that submarine!

Damn. However I think they aren't the only amateurs looking to put a man in space, there's teams all over the world.

Edit: oh and "Grauniad"? Pet name for The Guardian?

Private Eye started calling it The Grauniad years ago due to its propensity for typos (even with its own title). It'll always be The Grauniad to me.
