Behemoth and Galactic Navy oxps

Post by spara »

Hello all.

Lately I've been finessing a new version of my galactic navy facelift. Custom bgs tunnel texture, nicer behemoth type 2 texture & adding SimonB's navy destroyer (new cruiser/frigate) and navy carrier (new behemoth!) into the mix. To simplify things, instead of using shipdata-overdrives, I would like to merge my facelift project into GalNavy and Behemoth oxps. Meaning graphically enhanced versions of these two classics.

Two questions, before I do anything.

1. Is there any problem here? Am I stepping on someone's toes?
2. While I'm out there, is there something that ought to be looked at/fixed?

Behemoth v2.6 by aegidian, has a licence, so can be upgraded, however GalNavy doesn't.

GalNavy was originally (c) matt634 and Nemoricus, neither of which have been seen for some time. I think Eric Walch updated the OXP to JS, but don't know if he's the maintainer.

Right you are. I'll probably create an updated Behemoth oxp using PAGrooves type 1 retexture, my type 2 retexture and SimonB's re2dux Carrier as a third behemoth type. That should bring the oxp graphically up to date :) .

As for GalNavy, the licence is somewhat vague, some js files have cc-licence and and some have none :(. Hmm. Maybe Eric will know better. If it's a no go, then I just stick with shipdata-overrides. Less work for me that way :D.

What about ADCK's Behemoths? Hadn't you already done some work on them?

That's where I started. After reading Drew's books, I wanted to have GalNavy in my Ooniverse. I installed it and was disappointed at the graphics. ADCK's Behemoths was to remedy that, but it was unfortunately broken. So I ripped it apart, scavenged all models, repackaged them and released as ADCK's Behemoths redux.

Rather than having a separate addon (shipdata-overdrives) oxp, it would be simpler and more effective to just update GalNavy and Behemoths. I could also fix some errors/funny behavior. For instance, there are two different Navy station models that spawn randomly. So station in a system might look different when you return to it later. Purely cosmetic, but fixing that would require editing the spawning part of the GalNavy.

Now that project is expanding as I have lately done some retexturing and more scavenging (sb-destroyer and sb-navy), I'm going to rename the project to something like GalNavy Redux or something and put all there as separate addon oxps so that they can be mixed as preferred. New version of GalNavy facelift is almost finished and coming up soon. SimonB's Light Destroyer and Navy Carrier will take a bit more time that I anticipated, but will be up eventually.

What I was trying to ask is, what about ADCK's Type 3 and Type 4 Behemoths? Are they going to be used?

Hello spara,

I would like to know....please, if at all possible, Where in the Galactic Navy OXP, or the Galactic Navy Face lift , exactly, and in what file. I have to insert (or replace existing lines ) for to get the latest B.G.S docking sequence effect . and further what code lines do I use, as last time I asked, in the B.G.S. thread itself , I fell victim both to my lack of intelligence and mid life dumbness. :D

So in short, The new code to use and where( in what sub file within the OXP/s to insert/replace )

I thank you in advance for your time and patience. :)

Ah. Misunderstood. I have not done anything to those other than extracting from ADCK's behemoths and packaging them as a separate oxp. At the moment they are graphically not in par with retextured Type 1 and Type 2 and SimonB's Navy Carrier. Maybe I'll give 'em the same treatment I gave to Type 2, when I get some inspiration .

If all goes well, we'll have 5 different types of shiny behemoths :D .

Hello Duggan. I'll be releasing a new version by the weekend, which will have a custom bgs tunnel effect. If you can't wait that long, for behemoths, you'll need to edit behemoth-type1 and behemoth-type2 definitions in Facelift's shipdata-overrides file. Navy-bases (there are two) are in shipdata and shipdata-overrides files. Sorry, can't remember the names :(. To enable the default tunnel, add script_info = {bgs_tunnel_texture = "bgs_docking_tunnel01.png";}; inside the definition.

Have you seen this thread: Dertien's navy carrier upgrade. CNV Thor class.?

Those ships look great, maybe Dertien can supply you with them?

 I had forgotten that. It's a beauty. I'll pm Dertien about it, let's see if he answers.
