New commander...?

Post by Mathers »

Introduced myself last week, I have a quick question - opinions please! - last played Elite in 1987.

Should I start from scratch or change the save file to reflect my old commander details?

I could tell myself I have been held in stasis for 26 years for my bounty hunting crimes....!

Start from scratch - be a virgin Jameson again!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Agreed. My back-story is that I returned after a long, nysterious absence older but wiser, and broke! So I started with a Cobra Mk 1 and worked up.
Also, the early days are often the best in many ways, and it seems silly not to enjoy the whole experience again.

I'd recommend starting again, too. You can rationalise it how you like, but Oolite really is a whole new game in so many ways, and it's a shame to do yourself out of the early stages of your career.

O.k....

The government of the system have introduced a new policy of reviewing all stasis cases over 25 years and offer to release with one condition.....all credits, ships and equipment are forfeited for freedom.

I've accepted as the stasis sentence given was 250 years! - back to basics and reboot the trading unless the dark side beckons......

What the other guys said.

By the way: according to the semi-canonical timeline Oolite is set 16 years after Elite (which helps to explain the differences to Elite, for instance the existence of hardhead missiles and q-mines; and the greater variety of ships and stations). Thus you can't restart exactly where you stopped playing Elite anyway.

Nice to see you are starting over, starting with nothing and working your way back up is where the fun is. It's the journey that's important rather than the destination, I think a wise man said that once. 8)
