New Oolite Inspired Music piece: Witchspace
As some may know I'm making a sort of 'hyper radio station project' based on Oolite/Elite/Pioneer Frontier etc.
Original thread here:
http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6407
The music was recently featured on Lave Radio and another piece called: 'Witchspace' was featured as the endtrack of podcast Commander's Log #9 ‘Hysteria in Tionisla’ by John Harper. Who is podcasting about his book 'And here the wheel' You can now download this track. It is a no beats track though.

I do love your music PAGroove - this is another great one - love the build up in the intro as the other layers come in and just the hint of early gentle piano. It's melancholy (but in a good way).

Thank you Daddyhoggy. The goal of this piece was to reflect the 'magic' of witch space
When its ready ( thats when the whole project contains about 10 tracks) I make a hyperradio station out of it.

One of my favourite games of all time was "Total Annihilation" - it had, on the game CD, several pieces of fully orchestrated music, which the game selected depending on what was happening during the game. So, gentle strings during the opening build sequence, slightly menace wind overtones when first encountering the enemy and then full blown blaring horns and frantic pacing during the heavy fights to the death.
Is it possible to do something like that in Oolite?

OOTB was working on an OXP that did just that.. had it pretty much all working, too.. but most of the music he chose has licensing restrictions.. finding suitable unencumbered music would be a major project in itself, so he has shelved it for the time being.DaddyHoggy wrote:One of my favourite games of all time was "Total Annihilation" - it had, on the game CD, several pieces of fully orchestrated music, which the game selected depending on what was happening during the game. Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I wonder if PAG could turn some of his immense talents to this idea? <nudge> <nudge>

Then I guess the CCL_Music_Demo (uses Cabal_Common_Music.js) is something for you. It's only a demo (and the files are CC licensed), but it shows some of the possibilities for event driven music, even if it only uses a small part of the options.
