Random Hits

Post by Commander Tricky »

I'm doing a mission in Random Hits and am at the system where the target is to be found. I have been back and forth from Witch point to Space Station to Seedy Bar to Rock Hermit to sun and back, jumped out of system and back in again and generally tried to do as much as possible to find the target but she doesn't appear to be taking up the bait. Frankly, I'm now getting bored of this assignment and would like to drop it in favour of something else.

I see I can drop it in a Seedy Bar, but what would the consequences of that be? Will I suddenly find myself the target of all and sundry when I leave the station? Or how else should I go about locating the 'hit'?

Could this be moved to the Random Hits OXP thread? The answers are there already.

The mark is always on the route Witchspace Beacon to the Station. So as soon as you jump in set your compass to the 'N' and head straight for it. But if the mark encounters GalCop, bounty hunters or the Navy then they might be thrown off course.

But if you are to give it up them you loose some criminal hatred points and will not be the person the underworld most want to destroy.

EDIT: The friendly gourd is right of course :D

Thanks guys. I'll go back in again and see if the target pops up.

Brilliant advice above - thanks.

A couple of times when I've approached a Seedy Bar, all hell has been breaking loose in the vicinity and these utter gits flying Imperial Couriers seem to take an instant dislike to me and blow the heck out of me. In a standing fight, I don't seem to stand a chance against them - an ECM hardened missile was useful to make one fly away from me (he eventually outrun the missile) but otherwise I don't seem able to do them much harm - any strategy above and beyond running away would be appreciated!

Shooting while running away is usually what works best (the infamous "Monty Python" manoeuvre). Obviously, this requires the ability to operate a rear military laser (and the presence of one as well, of course).

Ha, that seems to be a re-occuring theme in this game. It's dog-eats-dog out there, and usually you feel like the chihuahua :(

Sometimes gangs of criminals will attack the bar (and any Clean Commanders nearby). They fly ships equal in strength to the ships flown by NPC Bounty Hunters. Hunters aboard the bar will scramble and engage them. So if you want to get involved in this furball, one tactic is just to hang back a bit until the bar has some birds in the air engaging the attackers. Then dive in and clean up!

Awesome - thanks guys. I am a past master at run away whilst administering rear laser. Every now and then I think it might be nice to be a courageous individual fighting from the front but you can't spend those Cr when you're dead!

Remember, "Only the good die young" (Iron Maiden), and, "Old soldiers don't die, they just fade away" (Douglas MacArthur).
