2 questions

Post by Commander Tricky »

1. I play with mouse/keyboard combination. I have yaw left/right via keyboard keys 'a' and 'd' respectively. Is there any way to amend the sensitivity of these keys? I find when lining up shots using my current keyboard these keys are too sensitive (hence they move the ship too much for each key press).

2. In my Cob MkIII I have more or less given up honest trading and now resort to piracy (although I do trade in precious metals/gems with Rock Hermits). This is probably good to net me c. 1500 - 2000 Cr per trip. However, the cost of some ships is extortionate relative to how quickly I can accrue cash from my 'trading' - ahem - am I missing a trick? Is there some way to earn much more money with each flight?

In 1.77, holding Ctrl increases the sensitivity of the movement controls.

1500 - 2000 cr per flight is a good income with a Cobra. You won't be able to get much more.

The Cobby's relatively small cargo hold is limiting you. If you want to increase your profit per flight considerably, you need more space. If you can scoop 70 or 100t instead of 35, you earn double or threefold.

Alternatively, you could switch to Oolite's most profitable career path: cargo hauling. Again, your cargo hold is limiting you, because there are not many contracts in this range. However, if you manage to successfully deliver a couple of the smaller contracts, you'll get really profitable contracts, for which you won't need to worry about cargo space anymore.

Yeah... apart from cargo contracts (as McLane mentioned), the only way you'd beat that is running narcs, and those runs ain't guaranteed.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Crivens man! I want to reduce sensitivity, not increase it :)

Noted about the cargo contracts - I have done one (it was only 32 tons) and will search for others.

Does the passenger hauling not generate the same profit as cargo?

You both mean the same. Cim meant 'reduce sensitivity' and 'increase the accuracy' for aiming.

Increase sensitivity as in "increase the precision of the movements you make". Sorry for the confusion!

Passenger hauling's not bad, and is easier to get into than contracts. Probably slightly more profitable than what you're doing at the moment, and combines well with bounty hunting if you leave a few TC spare for the high value salvage.

Thanks guys - I'm going to take another cargo contract and see what happens and then may buy the passenger berths.

Ctrl it is :)

You will need to do a few more contracts yet before you get to see the really lucrative jobs showing up..

To that end, it can be handy to install the Display Reputation OXP, so as to get a better idea of how you're doing.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
