To be honest that's why I set my story deliberately in the 'now' of Elite:Dangerous, I thought I'd avoid some of the "what's gone before" trouble with only subtle nods to previous games (you'll have to pay attention, they're there, but not at all blatant). It was hard enough getting approval for my synopsis without dicing with history. Chin up, Commander.

What do you mean? Are you lamenting the fact that Frontier developments' senior staff have not had full training in presenting to camera?

Why on earth would they need that to be software developers? And besides, your updates coudl all be text based. How crap would that be?

On the other hand: if they all come across like sort of socially impaired nerds who sort of still live in their mothers' basements—as Mr Brookes sort of does—that could also reflect sort of positively on the quality of the game they're producing.

So maybe it's actually sort of a perfect marketing campaign.

Sitting in a room full of people and waxing lyrical is one thing - sitting in a room in front of a green screen with a couple of people you know well is a very different thing. Believe me, I've done both. I would much rather face 500 strangers in an auditorium than make a presentation to five work colleagues.

I've done (and still do) both as well. It's a skill you can learn.

Indeed, being a teacher of adults myself, it really is a skill you can learn. But, I must still say that talking _alone_ in a room with a microphone as your only connection to your audience (distance lectures and online meetings) is the most difficult bit for me. You never see or hear the effect that your words have on your audience and thus cannot "play it by the ear"...

I've done some teaching and some radio work, but not teaching via radio - that would be difficult.

I was referring to Webex and other online teaching/conferencing tools, but the problems are pretty much the same as with a radio connection. Only one participant is allowed to use the microphone at a time (well, you could give everyone access, but it would become unmanageable very quickly). Tell a joke and you'll never know if anyone laughed at it or not... Very unsettling...
