Extracts from the Tre Clan Addresses on Interplanetary Life

Post by cim »

Texebi Interstellar Reference presents: Extracts from the Tre Clan Addresses on Interplanetary Life

Between 2081730 and 2081768 Cooperative Standard Time, the experienced pilot Commander Irina of the Tre Clan returned to Lerequ to fulfil her Third Obligation by discussing the political, economic, social and military aspects of Cooperative space with several young members of the clan considering a career in space, illustrated with a number of stories taken from her fifteen kiloday career as an independent pilot. Transcripts and recordings were taken of these addresses and conversations, for the benefit of future clan members coming of age.

With the gracious permission of Commander Irina and the Elders of the Tre Clan, we are able for the first time to publish extracts from these addresses to a wider audience. Some names and other details have been changed for the safety of third parties.

I hafta admit, you have a knack for this stuff, cim! 8) 8)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I read this last night - excellent work Cim.
I really like the way you've presented it as a series of lecture notes - a clever twist on the story telling and an interesting slant of life in the ooniverse, particularly regarding the passage of time.

Cheers for the great read :)

Thanks. It took several attempts to find a style that both worked for the character and worked for my writing ability.

I don't know if the PDF is still available, but you can get an OXP version to read aboard ship from

http://cim.sotl.org.uk/games/files/ooli ... ts_1.2.oxz

You'll need to install the ship's library OXP first:

Both available from the in-game expansion manager.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

i like good reads. just finished between the devil and black space (i think?) it was a pretty good book of short stories. sure it focused on INRA, but i liked how the various threads tied together. definitely will be looking into this (crack open the oxz)

If you like good reads, allow me to shamelessly shill a book or two.

As long as I get a warning bullet through the kneecap first, we're all good. 8)

Famous last words: "good time for a short break."

Really a nice read and hopefully the author wasn't lost in space as the break now already stretches another kiloday ...

Reading up on the background stories can become quite distracting, except for the content, that's actually available in game. Thanx for the tip! I missed it, cause I was searching for keyword "library", that only brought up two volumes of the Oolite saga, leaving me hunting down the rest in PDF downloads.

CU out there ... hopefully not within cross-hairs ...
