I noticed the parcel delivery missions don't seem to pay that much are they like the cargo delivery missions that get better paid when you do a certain amount of them?

The pay does increase a bit when you've done more of them, but it never gets particularly high. On the other hand, there's no limit even with the smallest ship on how many you can take on at once, and they don't take up valuable hold space. They're intended more as something extra to do when you were going that way anyway, than as a viable career.
