Very Old and Very Bold
I am from a generation whose first taste of science fiction came on the front page of the weekly "Eagle" comic in the person of 'Dan Dare - Pilot of the future'.
Does any member know if a version of Dan's own ship "Anastasia" has been made for Oolite?
Looking through some of the illustrated books of reprinted Dan Dare stories last evening I also wonder if some of the space ships and space stations that appeared in the "Eagle" some sixty years ago have been made for use in Oolite?

Re: Very Old and Very Bold
You could always place a request at this thread.
I'll have a look at this.
EDIT: This is a tricky one, because of scale. In Oolite the "Anastasia" would not be much more than an escape capsule (maybe less).
If somebody does this, he could rescale it into a larger ship with the same look, though.

I'm guessing that the answer would be, 'no'..smudge wrote:I am from a generation whose first taste of science fiction came on the front page of the weekly "Eagle" comic in the person of 'Dan Dare - Pilot of the future'.

I found a nice scratch-built model of Anastasia here.
Good images of Anastasia seem hard to come by. Even dandare.org and dandare.net seem to have only a handful. These are some of the better ones I came across.
Some of the other ships are interesting..
I could only find one image of a station, though.
More searching turned up a cutaway of Anastasia with the swing-wings folded back. It's a bit too big to post here, but here's the link:

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Anastasia was re-imagined as a larger ship in the 2002 TV series of the same name..Rorschachhamster wrote:EDIT: This is a tricky one, because of scale. In Oolite the "Anastasia" would not be much more than an escape capsule (maybe less).

Some very nice models made for the abandoned 1980s TV movie/pilot can be seen here.

You went to the fan sites and did a lot of research?Diziet Sma wrote:Good images of Anastasia seem hard to come by.
I just made a picture search with "Dan Dare Anastasia"...
Re: Very Old and Very Bold
Most interesting links - thank you.
Although "Anastasia" would be no larger than an Oolite escape pod it might be considered worth modelling as a 'panet to space station taxi or ferry vehicle'.
Modelled as a larger ship the shape is very attractive and it could be modelled to any size, perhaps as a step up from the Cobra III?
Many of the Dan Dare pace stations and space ships (cruise liners, cargo, ferries and "naval" vessels) would still look attractive and useful today.
The model of Anastasia made in about 1990 really does look convincing.
Thanks for all the responses.

Well.. I also wanted to learn more about a subject I knew nothing of..Rorschachhamster wrote:You went to the fan sites and did a lot of research?Diziet Sma wrote:Good images of Anastasia seem hard to come by.

Re: Very Old and Very Bold
It does look like a neat ship to pilot around. The funny thing is how it has aged much more gracefully than most science fiction ships from the 1950s, maybe it is the fact that it seems vaguely drone-like in design to me in this picture , my only guess why it seems that way to me is the round front and thin wings, which were probably meant to evoke a hybrid between a rocket and a plane.
for example,
on topic, maybe this would make a good cobra mk I-mk III size fighter/escort or fighter/trader ship if it was resized? Just an idea if someone does decide to make it.
