OXP Problem w7

Post by smudge »

A couple of days ago I downloaded the "randonshipnames.oxp" anticipating an interesting effect when I next ventured out of Lave station. To my regret I found that when I attempted to load the OXP into my AddOns folder I was met with the following message:

"do you wish to copy this withoiut encryption?"

I said "yes" but then found that the OXP did not work!

I removed the OXP from the AddOns folder and its parent from the separate storage folder then downloaded the OXP and attempted once again to load the newly downloaded OXP into my AddOns folder - same message - no go!

I pm'd Commander McLane and received help but neither of us has been able to solve this problem.

I have just downloaded "Dock_Assist_System 1.2. OXP" and when I tried to load that oxp into my AddOns folder a message appeared:

"a problem prevents this folder from being encrypted"

Has any other forum member with Windows 7 experienced these problems?

Help and assistance would be much appreciated.

I'm usually able to solve the "encryption problem" with the following (I'm using a german W7 version so take my "translations" with a grain of salt):
right click the OXP folder
Properties
Advanced (under attributes in the first tab)
Uncheck the "enrypt contents"
OK
Apply
Apply changes to folder and its contents

Edited to add:
It might help unzipping the OXP using an external program (7zip in my case) instead of using the Windoze builtin functions.

This is an issue you will sometimes come across in OXP's which are zipped on MAC's. Not sure why though.
- Extract the oxp (drag and drop).
- Right click on the oxp folder and select properties.
- On the "General" tab, remove tick in the "Read Only" box under attributes.
- Click "Advanced"
- Remove tick in the "Encrypt contents to secure data" box.
- Apply changes to all sub-folders and files.

That should sort it.

I wasn't aware of this. I'm using the built-in MacOS zipper to create my ZIPs. And the other OXP mentioned by smudge is one of mine as well.

It happens with almost every zip file created on a mac for me. It has no practical effect though. When the message appears: ""Do you wish to copy this without encryption?" just click yes and continue.

If smudge had a problem with RandomShipNames, I doubt this was the cause. You do actually have the "scanner targeting enhancement" equipment?

I just re-downloaded RandomShipNames, unzipped and installed it to check. I got a warning to 'back-up my encryption key', and the folder and OXP within were greyed-out. However, it still loaded and ran in-game with no problems. I'm using Win 7 Ultimate SP1, btw.

Thanks to everyone for the speedy replies.

When I right clicked on "randomshipnames.oxp" properties - General there was no tick in the 'read only' box for me to remove.

On to "Advanced" there was no tick in a greyed out box 'encrypt contents to secure data' for me to remove.

I had already tried removing my existing OXPs one by one and between each deletion I did try to install "randomshipnames.oxp". The same result "wish to copy files without encryption".

For the present I am stuck for a solution.

Have you tried this, smudge? It seems to work for Wildeblood... and for me.

For El Viejo:

Success at last! I did as you suggested and now all the ships have names other than the Galcop craft which now have what look like proper ID registrations.

Thanks, this little item might might be of help to other W7 users.

Cool! I cannot recommend that OXP highly enough... it adds so much to the immersion.

Admittedly I have never investigated thoroughly whether this has an adverse effect.
I saw the folder name in green text in my AddOns folder and googled it. I found the solution I provided above on a forum where they were discussing mods for Sims 3. So I just go through the procedure whenever I encounter the issue.
