A couple of quick comments:

Logs etc are easier to read if you post them within code tags (

).

You've got a few examples of OXPs installed within other OXPs (e.g. shield equaliser is installed inside generation ships) and even duplicate installations (all of the planetary compass name packs are installed twice - once within the OXP and a second time in the main addons folder).

OXPs within oxps isn't technically a problem, but if it's not done deliberately then you can have problems tracking them (e.g. if you have an OXP inside another one, if you remove the upper OXP you'll take the one inside out as well) and of course having OXPs installed twice isn't a good idea.

Sorry....

.... truly sorry....
Hehehe.. we are much harder to upset than that!

(in fact, so far as posting logs go, that one was considerably shorter than some we see)

Sweet... muchas gracias, Admiral! <grapples with Gimp>
I'd be most interested in seeing what you come up with, EV. 8)

The interesting part is the following one (starting with the third timestamped lined from the top of the log):

Code: Select all

19:56:32.873 [rendering.opengl.version]: OpenGL renderer version: 1.4.0 ("1.4.0 - Build 8.14.10.1930"). Vendor: "Intel". Renderer: "Intel Bear Lake B".

19:56:32.878 [rendering.opengl.shader.support]: Shaders will not be used (OpenGL extension GL_ARB_shading_language_100 is not available).
I have no idea what card "Intel Bear Lake B" is referring to, but it looks like it's only marginally better than your other computer, if at all. It's got the same OpenGL version with the same (rather small!) number of extensions available, and no shader support as well (last quoted line).

So it's probably safe to say that your gameplay experience won't improve much on this computer.

I gotta go on a photo-shoot first, then decide if I want a straight image, or a contrived image - I'm thinking full-screen (1280x1024).
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Nice! Having seen the past results of your photo-shoots, I'm agog with anticipation! 8)

Ouch! Well spotted sir...

It's the fault of this crappy Windoze Explorer. I really miss the double-pane explorer that was available on the Amiga... this W.E. one just makes it all too easy to pick up and drop files in the wrong location.

Anyways, it's sorted now.

Looks like this PC can't handle OpenGL too well. Not a problem. Even though I may be missing a few bells and whistles on the graphics side it's still a heck of a step up from the CPC version I originally cut my teeth on.

BTW anyone know if there is a PD file manager similar to the "two-pane" ones we used to have available on the Amiga? W.E. really is a pain in the butt.

You could try http://www.freecommander.com/. It's a Freeware tool. Most other tools out there are shareware and are shipping somewhat annoying and insecure toolbars.

Bless you sir - you are a gentleman. I've got it and it looks fab - just what I was looking for!

Thank-you!

Not only I am a noob to this site... I am only slightly more qualified as a scutter on Red Dwarf. I worship John Wayne and cowboy movies... but I have no idea what code tags are!

Oh fugg... hang on - you mean the old BB codes

Code: Select all

Like this?
which we used to call "slash codes" back in the day..

Well if that helps then I jolly well all for it.

Thanks Thyroid

I mean Throgloid/Trogalidite/Theremone/Throg-throttler... Oh what the heck....

Thanks anyways!

Is that Gog or Magog, Diz? I haven't got the right image yet (I keep getting distracted by bandits, and using the fly-by cam in a firefight is tricky), so I'm using this one for the moment (it's 1280x1024 and 5MB, if you wanna try it).

That's just mean.... you know that I am just using a whacked-out PC with less muscles than Dame Edna Everidge and yet you still mock me with veiled taunts about how my "Intel driver" is slightly floppier than what the new boys can supply?

How on Earth can I harden this "thing" up enough to enjoy a full night of OOOOhhh Light Loving?

S'rsly though... I need a card?

What is that? Can I go to the local computer shop and buy one? Will it slot into my computer's main board? How much do these jobbies cost. Will it be compatible with my Windoze 7 setup?

So many questions....

You may be able to buy/have fitted a graphics card - it depends on whether the motherboard has a slot for it.
Best seek the advice of a friendly geek/local computer shop - it could cost as little as $30-40, maybe even less.

Ohhhh.... shute... I know I am going to bite into this one as well... BUT.... does a graphic card just slot into the back of a PC like the old D-Link, Via SATA and USB expansion connectors did?

Or have I got it completely wrong - yet again?

It's most likely an internal job, I'm afraid.
