A few questions.

Post by Rogue7414 »

Ok, time for some really noob questions which I' hoping a few of you will be able to answer without to much laughing or poking fun at me!

First up, I'm wondering how you get an avatar photo up, I know it's accessed in the user control panel I'm just not sure about how to get the image I want placed up?

Secondly, and this one has stumped me for some time, signatures. I see there's quite a few people that have signatures either linking to OXP's they've done or a banner or in the case of El Viejo for example linking to the Oolite Wiki telling you all about himself. I'm trying to and would like to get a banner up, one from Elite Dangerous, but unfortunately when it comes to matters like this, even basic ones, I'm pretty crap, so anyone up for a wee bit of schooling?

Thirdly, and finally, Diziet Sma, what ship is that in your Avatar photo, looks fair decent.

Cheers for the anticipated help and sorry for the dumb ass questions. :D

Avatars can be up to 128x128px and are normally .png images (.gif or .jpg might be OK as well - I'm not sure TBH). Go to User Control Panel (top right of the page) then click on Profile in the Options box. You will then find Edit Avatar as an option. Click on it and you will get an input field where you can 'Upload From Your Machine'. Simply choose your avatar and Submit.
You will also find Edit Signature with the Edit Avatar option. Just type in the sig you want (including any link between and tags, and/or images between [img]and[/img] tags) and Submit.
Dizzies ship is a PitViper - I think it says so under the avatar

Please don't.

And since we're on the subject, where is the option to hide all the annoying signatures?

TBH I have to agree with Wildeblood on this point. Many board members (including myself) are non too keen on banners and images in members' sigs, but ultimately it is your choice.

Thirded. I also really don't like large signature and the banners, especially when viewing the board on my nexus 7.

As I tell my IT clients.. "The only dumb question is one you don't ask."

As Smivs said, yep, she's a Pitviper S.E. "Beast". There's a thread on it here. As her creator, Captain Beatnik says, "What the Boa II is to the trader, the Pitviper is to the bounty-hunter."

And it's a hell of a lot of fun to fly..
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Re large sig images and banners: I tend to agree, especially with regard to banners. But as cim points out, you can choose not to display any sigs, or use something like Adblock Plus to disable specific images only (which might include those irritating/distracting animated avatars).

AdBlock sadly no longer works under Android jellybean plus chrome. Google messed about with it, and the work around doesn't play nice with chrome if you actually want to see web pages.

Yeah, that don't surprise me - Google ain't gonna want you not seeing adverts. You on a work machine, so no choice in browsers?

No its my N7 but it's all set up and synched with chrome. I have Firefox on it too but I'm not so keen on that except for flash stuff. Plus Adblock is a battery killer.

I think this discussion about sigs and banners etc really needs its own thread, so here it is. :)
