Rescue Stations - System Hang - Black Box Recovery

Post by g0mgx »

Hi Guys

New around here, so please excuse any Muppetry.

I've just started with the Rescue Stations oxp and am trying to recover a black box from within an asteroid belt.

Initially when I started getting receiving "ping" messages, I think I then found the black box but the game crashed. This **looked** from the log files like something to do with the Talkative Space Compass - the previous log file below refers.

So I removed the Talkative Space Compass oxp from the Addons directory and tried again, this time the same thing happened - the game hangs when I **think** I find the black box.

Can anyone help with this? I cant see how to attach so excerpts are below.

Thanks.

previous log:

Rescue Stations 1.2.4
Talkative Space Compass 1.0.4
04:09:19.263 [script.javaScript.timeLimit]: ***** ERROR: Script "Generic Black Box" ran for 1.28311 seconds and has been terminated.
04:09:19.285 [script.javaScript.stackTrace]: 0 (rescue_blackbox.js:13) <anonymous function>
04:09:19.285 [script.javaScript.stackTrace]: this: [Script "Generic Black Box" version 1.2.4]

latest log:

Rescue Stations 1.2.4

Hi, g0mgx (how do you pronounce that? ), and first of all welcome to the Friendliest Boards This Side Of Riedquat™! :D

I'm fairly sure that the problem in the first case has something to do with the Generic Black Box script being terminated unexpectedly. I'm just wondering why this error isn't present in the second log.

But certainly the OXP creator will be here in a minute and will be able to provide some more insight.

Well, thanks for the welcome - it's good to be here.

I'm old enough to have spent ***way*** too long hunched over the BBC B playing elite when I should have been doing something else... so finding Oolite was just great!

I'm enjoying the game very much, have repeated this error a few times now, even got the black box just a few feet from the fuel scoops when the system hangs.... I'm seeing a ".... has stopped responding" message.

I'm wondering if generally people stop other things running on the PC?

Oh, how do you pronounce g0mgx - you probably don't - it's my ham radio callsign!

Ah yes... I remember it well. Welcome aboard!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Code: Select all

Rescue Stations 1.2.4
Talkative Space Compass 1.0.4
I suspect there's quite a gap in terms of time between this line and the next one. The ones above just look like generic script loading lines. So Talkative Space Compass probably doesn't have anything to do with the crashing.

Code: Select all

04:09:19.263 [script.javaScript.timeLimit]: ***** ERROR: Script "Generic Black Box" ran for 1.28311 seconds and has been terminated.
04:09:19.285 [script.javaScript.stackTrace]: 0 (rescue_blackbox.js:13) <anonymous function>
04:09:19.285 [script.javaScript.stackTrace]: this: [Script "Generic Black Box" version 1.2.4]
I don't have the script in front of me at the moment, but I don't think there's anything in it that should take that long. That particular mission does add a lot of extra asteroids to the universe, though. How much RAM do you have, and what OS?

Hi

I'm currently working away from home in Doha using an ASUS laptop, Win 7 Home Premium SP1 (64bit), 6GB RAM.

I didn't miss any lines out of the log files, they were contiguous.

Thanks for the help

6GB should be more than enough for Oolite. It may be that other applications on your system are causing it to run short on memory - do you still get the same problem if you are only running Oolite?

Sorry - I mean that there is likely a gap of several minutes (or more) between those two lines being printed (in which it would not be unusual for no other log lines to be printed). The lines above the arbitrary break I inserted are the last of the routine ones as Oolite loads various scripts at game startup; the lines below are the error messages which are not directly connected to the script loading.

Interestingly I've tried a few different things.

I've removed the talking compass thing... an then tried again. 1st time it crashed as per the second log I submitted, but trying again I recovered the black box then the crash occurred as I tried to witchspace elsewhere.

Should I be stopping things like virus software (I mean anti-virus!) - I have AVG free on this PC.

Let me try and stop some other background programs and report back.

Thanks for the help.
