New to the forums and new to Oolite.

Post by Rogue7414 »

Hi all,

just wanted to say hi to everyone and introduce myself, have been playing Oolite now for a couple of weeks and I can say I am totally loving it. I feel you're getting to play the game that was described in the original Elite game all those years ago, and yes I am old enough to have played it on the old BBC, Commodore 64, Amiga 500 and my very first PC. The add-on's you can install to the game are fantastic, and to everyone that has contributed to Oolite, thank you again for all your efforts.

Anyway enough gushing from me and cheers for everything.

Paul.

G'day Paul, and welcome aboard! 8)

Out of curiosity, how did you come across Oolite?
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Hi, and welcome. Many of us remember the original Elite from the BBC and C64 etc, so don't worry about feeling 'old' - you'll fit in just fine!

Believe it or not it was when the Kickstarter for Elite Dangerous was going on, I made my pledge, managed to convince my wife that donating £150.00 to fund the development of a game was a really good investment, saw a comment made by someone on the Kickstarter site about Oolite, at first I thought it was a typo, then after having a look into it found this, http://www.oolite.org/links and have been playing ever since, as I tell my wife I'm getting my hand in for when elite Dangerous comes out next year, well I can't go into an online game like this cold now can I!

Cheers for the warm welcome people.

Star Gazer, I'm also hoping this too! Like I said, a very understanding and long suffering wife. :D

Hey... Hi Dan! Nice to see you back here!

I still visit here occasionally and see what's new. I have kept up to date with the game and thoroughly enjoying 1.77 with just a few choice oxps installed - Griff, Famous Planets, BGS and a few others. I did visit the EV Nova site recently, out of nostalgia for what once was, but is no more...

aw, shame about EV Nova. Didn't I actually buy that one?

Yeah, 1.77 is great fun. I have no OXPs yet, considering ship names though. I'm at Deadly and have just got the cloaking device!

Random ship names is a must-have for immersion - get it!
