Haven't played Oolite since August 2011

Post by Madotsuki »

Hi! I'm wondering what has changed, what new OXPs I should get, and if I'll need to redownload all of them. Thanks!

An absolute must-have for immersion - [EliteWiki] Random ship names - and welcome aboard.
I'm sure that there'll be plenty of other suggestions - are you up to date with Oolite 1.77?

Well, I'm downloading it now. Version I played seems to have been... 1.75.3? Yeah.

I have like 15 tabs for different new OXPs open. But... I'll have to redownload all the old ones, won't I?

Madotsuki I suppose this depends on whether you want to play Oolite as close to the original Elite or would like to Taylor the game further.

Not necessarily - some older OXPs just keep on giving, whereas others will need to be updated.

A lot of the older OXPs have been updated so it would be a good idea to go through and check the version numbers against the numbers of the latest versions.

Griff's shipset are always popular while Smivs' ship set makes use of some cleaver additional features such as battle damage.

Also welcome to the forum

Heh.. that's a lot of checking.. might be simpler (faster, even!) to just assume you need to download them all again..

Welcome aboard, btw! 8)

Welcome back :)
As has been said already, the upgrade to v1.77 is a must. For your OXPs it's probably easier to check the ones you use on the OXP table which has a 'version compatability' column and is usually more or less up to date, but I think most of the older one have already been updated for 1.77 anyway. And of course you may find some good ones you haven't seen before as well.

Erm... quick question.
Has the "Pause and arrow keys control time" feature been disabled? It was quite helpful.

Yes, well in the Deployment build. The TAF (time acceleration function) is not meant to be used during play, only for testing stuff.

However if you download the patch program to convert the installer to the Test version, then in that the TAF is still available...

Note also that it has been made a little more "oops-proof" by requiring that the framerate display is enabled as well for it to activate. (there had been too many instances of people inadvertently touching the arrow keys while paused without realising it)
