How I discovered Oolite...

The duel ("knife fight in a phone booth") lasted a good half hour, me with my pulse laser and no injectors and no shield or energy mods, against whatever this guy had. I got him, finally, and it was the best feeling I've ever had in a computer game

Heehee, I bet that's what gets a lot of people addicted, I *still* remember my first serious 'furball', felt like hours, but probably over in half an hour.

Almost blacking out from the strain, heart racing, hairs on end.... Cursing, cursing, cursing...

And then I got him.

Indeed, it felt *so* good!

Like many of you I played Elite back in the 80's on a C64. I traveled the eight many times over with several commanders. But I was nearly 40 years of age at the time. Gives away my age now, but that doesn't bother me. I'm a firm believer that gaming is good for the mind. Too many people my age sit in front of the telly for hours watching the rot that is broadcast these days.

Okay, moving on: One day, a couple years ago, I googled "Elite Galaxy Maps". The listing led me to Oolite, and I was hooked. I did not then add many OXP's. Even now, I have only about 20... Mainly ambience and game mechanics. I like my Ooniverse to be challenging, bordering on suicidal to even leave the confines of the station. I get a feeling come over me as it did 30 years ago. A feeling that anything might happen so be prepared.

Absolutely right. Nowadays I only watch TV on demand. (from the Internet). TV in this respect often means my Macbook. I absolutely hate commercials so with on demand I can skip most of it and an add killer plugin for Youtube also helps a little. .Although I have a nice TV. I only use the TV to game or watch a movie.

But now back on topic.

Sorry, being a german with school-enlish, I can't write my thoughts well in english.

I don't even own a TV-set any more, internet is my TV. Buying a game-console may change this. My friends still have their problems with that. I don't pay any heed about knowing who is the next 'Top Model' or the 'Superstar'. I'm interested in the next Mars-Misson or how the romans had lived in former times.

Oolite and the stories behind it (Drew, you are a very good writer! When I've finished, I'll read the stories of the other authors) shows me that there are people of my point of view. Oolite is not just a game, it's a way of living and understanding.
I hope this was not too pathetic.

Aye.. the very low quantity of incompatibilities and the degree of integration really is a testimony to how well designed and implemented the expansion system is, and to the level of cooperation and collaboration between OXP authors and the developers.

We are very blessed to have such a large group of talented and skilled individuals dedicated to Oolite. I salute you all!
