It's gonna be a nightmare to unwrap and texture.

That's exactly what I've been thinking about the odyssey.Thargoid wrote:It's gonna be a nightmare to unwrap and texture.
Every time I add some small, round piece of detail it sets off alarm bells in my head.

I've no clue about texturing, but I think I know what you mean. But the good thing is: Since the comet is from a cartoon, I'd not be surprised if textures aren't needed at all! It might look good / just like in the cartoon by just using the right colors. What do you think?maaarcooose wrote:That's exactly what I've been thinking about the odyssey.Thargoid wrote:It's gonna be a nightmare to unwrap and texture.

Re: Ship Wishlist!!! :-D
I think the right colours will still need to be in the right places! Seriously, this is going to be very hard to do even a most basic texture for. There might be a case here to break it down into its various parts (which individually will be much easier to texture), then assemble it with the main body as the 'ship', and all the cylindrical and spherical bits as subentities.GGShinobi wrote:Since the comet is from a cartoon, I'd not be surprised if textures aren't needed at all! That's exactly what I'm planning to do. I'm only building it as a single model to get all the perspectives as close as I can. I'm sure someone else could do better, but I guess it's open for anyone to try. Once broken down into subentities, it shouldn't be so hard to unwrap, and texture (I hope).Smivs wrote:There might be a case here to break it down into its various parts (which individually will be much easier to texture), then assemble it with the main body as the 'ship', and all the cylindrical and spherical bits as subentities.

Thanks Shipbuilder. It probably aught to be you making it. I hope it turns out even half as good as expected.Shipbuilder wrote:Looking good Mandoman.

Re: Ship Wishlist!!! :-D
It's the spheres and cylinders that will probably give most grief. I always find that they end up with seams and dislocations whenever I try to use them in models.
Best of luck with it though, it's a lovely model.

Thanks. I guess we'll see soon enough.
Re: Ship Wishlist!!! :-D
I'm at the point where I'm going to start breaking the ship up into the main section, and subentities. I figure there will be at least 11 separate subentities. I don't know how he is going to make it work, but I think GGShinobi should have plenty of moveable parts to work with. The main Globe section still has a couple of details to add, but I want to try smoothing it more before adding the details. Here are screenies of the Comet, pre-breakup.

There are two things I must say..
1) That is one seriously impressive job you've done, Mandoman!
2) That has got to be the most weird-ass, impractical design for a combat-spaceship I've ever seen..
(with apologies to GGShinobi)

Heheh.. I'm thinking, unless that baby has a Bergenholm installed, the first time it pulls over a G during a change of vector, it'll snap its' pretty little neck..GGShinobi wrote:Diziet Sma, wait till you see it in action!
